Samsung P3 eyes up the PMP throne
January 8, 2009 by Insider Staff
Samsung have been pretty busy at CES this year. As well as their new solid state HD
camcorder, they’ve also announced the P3 – a spiffing-looking PMP to take on
Apple’s iPod Touch and (although they probably didn’t know it when they were
making it) the upcoming Sony Walkman X-Series.
So why should Apple and Sony be worried? Well, firstly the P3 looks gorgeous. And
if anything’s going to take on the big guns it has to look sexier than Megan Fox and Angelina Jolie at a pyjama
party, wearing… sorry, got distracted for a minute then. Anyway, you know what we’re saying, and the P3 delivers
in spades on that front, measuring a mere 0.39-inches thin.
Next, it needs the high-end tech its opponents have. Again, Samsung appears to have delivered, kitting out the
P3 with a three-inch WQVGA TFT-LCD with a 16:9 aspect ratio. It also uses Samsung’s new EmoTure
technology to ensure that every touch has a haptic response to let you know you’ve touched it – which is always
good.
Most importantly, it needs to sound good. You don’t want your music to sound all scratchy and nasty (unless
you’re a James Blunt fan, then you get what you ask for). Here the P3 uses DNSe 3.0 sound enhancement
technology, which allows the user to hear as the original composer intended – supposedly.
Samsung has also thrown in a voice recorder, Bluetooth, and a built-in mic. It’ll arrive over here early this year in
4GB, 8GB and 32GB sizes. Sounds good? You better believe it, sucka!
