2. Outline
• About a British soldier who gets stuck in
Belfast after a deadly riot due to a civil arrest.
• Jack O’Connell (the main actor) was divided
from his unit and was left to fend for himself.
• This film is about trust as along the way he
meets people who both want to help him and
kill him and he had to decide who to trust.
3. Picture Ville
• I went to Bradford Media museum with my media class to
Picture Ville(a small independent cinema within the media
museum)
• We went to compare low budget films and high budget films. As
said, this was a low budget films.
• It has some unknown actors and actors known from small
shows such as the lead actor, Jack O'Connell, who played James
Cook in Channel 4 TV drama ‘skins’. This shows the film
production couldn’t afford higher up actors. However, hiring an
actor with a smaller acting career is more effective due to the
fact that the audience may not know him for other acting roles,
meaning he fits into his role in 71 and makes it more believable
to the audience as they don’t expect anything from him.
• This ran for 99 minutes which could be shorter than some higher
budget films.
4. Yann Demange
• Directed 71 born in Paris and raised in London
studied at the prestigious London college of
printing his first set of films explored a range of
social and cultural groups. By this he caught the
eye of for narrative detail.
• Yann attended the National Film and Television
school to take an MA in fiction directing where he
was the recipient of a full scholarship from Disney
this is when he became interested in film
directing
5. Reviews
The film received 4/5 stars from Berlin film
festival
The film also received 4/5 stars form London
film festival on October 5th 2014
Both reviews explained that the film was
thrilling and intense both reviews said how
surprised they where bout how realistic the film
was.
6. Target Audience
• The target audience doesn’t require highly paid
and well known actors as it is a low budget film
and is only shown in a small cinema and will
appeal to an art-house audience
• Id say that the target audience is definitely adults
mostly men. I said adults because some elderly
people may have experienced the IRA terrorism.
This would appeal to a British audience.
