2. Introduction Charles Robert Darwin (February 12, 1809 – April 19, 1882) is known as a famous scientist who formed the basis of modern evolutionary theory. Serving as a naturalist on the HMS Beagle's five year expedition around the world, Darwin realized that many of the plants and animals that he studied on the Galapagos Islands were very similar to the plants and animals he studied on the continent of South America. From this observation, he created several theories: 1. Evolution did occur. 2. Evolution change was very gradual. 3. Natural selection is the main way evolution occ urs. 4. The many species there are today are all from one life form. He called this “Speciation” I chose to research Darwin because I don't know much about him. I would like to know exactly what he accomplished and how he created the theory of evolution.
