The document discusses the International Year of Chemistry in 2011 as designated by the United Nations. It summarizes that the American Chemical Society supported advocacy efforts for this designation and will lead outreach activities through technical divisions and meetings to build awareness of chemistry's contributions. The goal is to encourage members to get involved through local celebrations, partnerships, and using online toolkits and resources provided on the ACS website.
