Voip

 1. 1. VOIP
Chelsea McMurray
- Voice Over Internet Protocol
2. 2. What is VOIP?
“Voice over Internet protocol, a communications protocol that allows for telephonic communication via the Internet”
VOIP has become extremely popular within today's society, as a form of contacting and communicating others from all around the world. It is especially useful to those with family in different parts of the world, and to those living in rural areas.

A form of contacting & communicating

Who can use VOIP?

Anyone, as long as both have the internet and a webcam/camera

 4. 4. People living in rural areas

Private Uses
It can be used privately, through corporation companies. For instance, if an agenda or meeting has been dated, and an important person cannot make it, video-calls can be made as if that person were in the room; allowing you to discuss vital information. Private usage can also be used through mobile phone devices - pioneering from the company Apple as "face-time." This can only be used if the devices both have the ready-installed programme and are paying extra money for the feature. It allows you to view, and be seen by the other person and communicate as if you were in face to face.

Pioneering company Apple have also launched Face-Time on other devices e.g. iPad 2; this is for corporate use as they are allowing different technologies to connect (enhancing product line and profit.)

Public Uses
VOIP is used publicly through web-based telephony such as Skype - in which you have to be contacts in order to communicate. Other forms of VOIP are used in gaming. X-Box 360 have a Live Gold Membership, which costs £40 a year, and allows you to talk and play with other gamers online. The recent launch of the Kinect (a controller-free entertainment gaming system,) is also another way of using VOIP to its full advantage; by using this system to video-connect to friends.
5. 5. Although there are two main differences between VOIP, you can argue that both categories overlap each-other. All types of VOIP's are to an extent, public; in the sense that its owned by a public corporation, although the actual consumers use the feature privately.
