How does your
media product represent
particular social groups?
What does it mean to represent?

 The description or portrayal of someone or
something in a particular way or as being of a
                certain nature.
My Social Group
My magazine mostly represents teenagers/young adults
 between the ages of 16-20 who would like to know more
 about the country genre. In some ways my magazine targets
 teens who are wanting to enter the music industry
 themselves and those who just enjoy listening to music. I
 wanted my magazine to appeal to a larger range of young
 people because I wanted to show everyone how diverse the
 genre can be and how it has changed through time to a more
 modern way. In order to bring the magazine into currents
 times I had to choose my model, colouring schemes and
 layout carefully but I still wanted to keep the typical country
 theme in the magazine.
Gender
Even though any genre of music could appeal to either gender
  I wanted my magazine to be more female based. Even
  though you would tend to use a female model in a male
  based magazine because of the attraction I wanted to use a
  female because readers would aspire to be them which
  would appeal to my target audience. I wanted my model to
  dress fairly naturally so that my audience could relate to
  being like her and make them feel that they are like her in
  some sense, from research I learn't that this is what they
  prefer.
Teenage Life.
Typically teenagers seem to like to talk and read about
 general life and in ways I wanted my magazine to be
 able to relate to this through music. I did this
 particularly in my double page spread interview
 where the model had to answer questions. Having
 her talk about her life before and after fame would
 be easy to relate to for my target audience because at
 the ages of 16-20 they are at the stage of career
 choices, and I would hope that this article would
 help them achieve their goals.
The Age Range.
My target audience is aged between 16-20 (I am in this age
 range myself) and I know personally that it is in this point in
 your life when you have to start making big decisions, and I
 wanted to make this connected to music in my magazine. I
 wanted this magazine to show that no matter what you want
 to do it is possible if you work hard (as cliché as it may be) I
 think my target audience would be interested in this because
 they would have a lot of pressure on them so they would be
 looking for somewhere with advice.
Socio-Economic Groups.
Having different economic groups and classes can effect an
  audience on what they read and what they buy so I wanted my
  magazine to appeal to mainly middle and some lower class.
  Firstly I made my price £1.50 (extremely cheap I know) but this
  was so that everyone could get introduced to the magazine and
  find out new things about the genre, doing this would widen
  peoples knowledge. Not only this but I had a “Win” section in
  my magazine which allowed readers to win concert tickets which
  I think would appeal to middle class as from research I
  discovered musical events such as this are what people like to do
  in their spare time.
Conclusion.
Overall I think I had been able to represent my target
 market group well because through my magazine I
 have shown the hard working side of teens who will
 work for achieving a goal (C Baker) This article
 allowed teens to relate and help them achieve their
 goals in life.

I wanted my magazine to appeal to a larger range of young people because I wanted to show everyone how diverse the genre can be and how it has changed through time to a more modern way. In order to bring the magazine into currents times I had to choose my model, colouring schemes and layout carefully but I still wanted to keep the typical country theme in the magazine.
  • 4. Gender Even though any genre of music could appeal to either gender I wanted my magazine to be more female based. Even though you would tend to use a female model in a male based magazine because of the attraction I wanted to use a female because readers would aspire to be them which would appeal to my target audience. I wanted my model to dress fairly naturally so that my audience could relate to being like her and make them feel that they are like her in some sense, from research I learn't that this is what they prefer.
  • 5. Teenage Life. Typically teenagers seem to like to talk and read about general life and in ways I wanted my magazine to be able to relate to this through music. I did this particularly in my double page spread interview where the model had to answer questions. Having her talk about her life before and after fame would be easy to relate to for my target audience because at the ages of 16-20 they are at the stage of career choices, and I would hope that this article would help them achieve their goals.
  • 6. The Age Range. My target audience is aged between 16-20 (I am in this age range myself) and I know personally that it is in this point in your life when you have to start making big decisions, and I wanted to make this connected to music in my magazine. I wanted this magazine to show that no matter what you want to do it is possible if you work hard (as cliché as it may be) I think my target audience would be interested in this because they would have a lot of pressure on them so they would be looking for somewhere with advice.
  • 7. Socio-Economic Groups. Having different economic groups and classes can effect an audience on what they read and what they buy so I wanted my magazine to appeal to mainly middle and some lower class. Firstly I made my price £1.50 (extremely cheap I know) but this was so that everyone could get introduced to the magazine and find out new things about the genre, doing this would widen peoples knowledge. Not only this but I had a “Win” section in my magazine which allowed readers to win concert tickets which I think would appeal to middle class as from research I discovered musical events such as this are what people like to do in their spare time.
  • 8. Conclusion. Overall I think I had been able to represent my target market group well because through my magazine I have shown the hard working side of teens who will work for achieving a goal (C Baker) This article allowed teens to relate and help them achieve their goals in life.
