3.  One of his most famous poems was "Lift Every Voice and Sing." His
brother later added music to the poem. It is considered to be the
unofficial "Negro National Anthem". It was a bold piece of work that
spoke of the struggle of the African American in America and his
optimistic hope for a better future.

4.  A middle school in Florida,
James Weldon Johnson Middle
School, has been named after
him.
 The United States Postal Service
honored Johnson by issuing a 22
cent postage stamp on February
2, 1988.
 Johnson was honored with
Harmon Gold Award for 'God's
Trombones'.
 In 1929, he was granted the
Julius Rosenwald Fund.
