2. Decimation of Ozone layer over a
region
OZONE LAYER is the protective bubble around the earth
that shields the harmful Ultra Violet rays
With every coolant system technologically built so
far, we are depleting ozone layer bit by bit by releasing
CFCs.
BIGGER PICTURE
When a single atom can trigger and carry out depletion
upto 2 years,
Overriding the tiny paced depletion, we present the
sudden and chronic erosion of the O3 layer!
Cl + O3 → ClO + O2
ClO + O3 → Cl + 2 O2 →
.....
........
3. Ozone can be destroyed by a number of free radical catalysts.
(OH·) (NO·) (Cl·) (Br·)(F.).
UV Rays liberate them from their active compounds.
Possibilities??
• An alien spacecraft releases these harmful
compounds(radicals) in exorbitant amounts.
SUPERSONIC AIRCRAFTS ARE KNOWN TO BE RELEASING NO.
• Extra-terrestrial events along the lines of solar
flares and solar wind ,resulting in the release
of these decimating radicals.
OH RADICALS HAVE BEEN FOUND IN IN MANY STARS
• OR Simply release of a catalyzing substance from space that proliferates
the existing depletion due to man-made sources!!!
LETS SEE THE CONSEQUENCES
4. IF THE UV RADIATIONS FIND THEIR WAY TO THE EARTH, they will result in:-
Disruption right at the foundation of the food chain, which leads to a
cumulative effect on the ecosystem.
UV radiations kill Phytoplankton. Less phytoplankton means less food
for the sea animals to eat. It is estimated just a 16 % ozone depletion
indirectly leads to a loss of about 7 million tons of fish per year. The
human food supply already strained due to demands of an ever
increasing population, reductions resulting from UV damage may be
disastrous to many people, especially the poor and indigenous.
IMAGINE THE EFFECT OF DECIMATION OF OZONE AND THE CONSEQUENCES
Extremely high UVA radiations exposure leading to skin cancer.
Whatever sunscreen solutions we have right now can only overcome
the problem of UVB radiations but not UVA.
The health risks are
Basal and squamous cell carcinomas, malignant melanoma, cataract, etc, etc.
5. Experts predict that an estimated 10 % reduction in the ozone layer
will result in a 25 % increase in non-melanoma skin cancer rates
It also damages the DNA of marine bacteria and the larvae of
starfish and urchins. And it even alters ocean
chemistry, creating potentially dangerous substances in the
water itself and cause biological damage by oxidizing
biological molecules.
