7. INTRODUCTION
The saved in Christ Jesus, since when he accepted Jesus as
his only and sufficient Savior, can go through different
situations in his life to experience spiritual revival. The
Christian life is a spiritual journey that begins on the day of
conversion and continues until death, if the person
perseveres to the end (Mt 10.22). In the spiritual walk, the
believer needs to remain faithful, living according to the
will of God. For this it is necessary to walk in the Spirit.
KEYWORD: SPIRIT
8. I - LIFE IN THE SPIRIT
1- Walking in Spirit. In the Bible, the verb to walk has the
figurative sense of living, experiencing, practicing and
leading in the spiritual life. Therefore, Paul writes: “I say,
however, walk in the Spirit and you will not fulfill the lust
of the flesh” (Gal 5.16). Walking in the Spirit, with a capital
“E”, has a very high and deep spiritual meaning. It is to
have a Christian life subordinated to the direction of the
Holy Ghost, based on the dictates of the Holy Word of
God. It is having a spiritually revived life (Rm 8.1).
9. I - LIFE IN THE SPIRIT
2- Why walk in Spirit? The believer in Jesus must walk
according to the Holy Ghost in order not to fulfill the desires of
the carnal nature (Gl 5.16). Writing to the Romans, the apostle
Paul said: “There is therefore now no condemnation to those
who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh,
but according to the spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in
Christ Jesus has set me free from the law of sin and death”
(Romans 8:1,2). Therefore, walking in the Spirit, the saved has
Victory over the empire of sin and death.
10. I - LIFE IN THE SPIRIT
3- How to walk in Spirit? It is not easy to walk in the Spirit.
Unfortunately, the inclination of the carnal nature, inherited from
our first parents, inherent in all human beings, makes us pursue
things that are not pleasing to God. When people accept Christ as
Savior, they become new creatures, through the salvific process
of the New Birth (John 3:3; 2 Corinthians 5:17). However, they
need to cultivate a spiritual and persevering relationship with
God. Therefore, for the believer to walk in the Spirit, he must
have the Holy Ghost within him (John 14:17); be led by the Spirit
(Rom. 8:14); be filled with the Holy Ghost (Eph. 5:18).
11. SYNOPSIS I
Having a spiritually enlivened life is walking in the
Spirit and living according to biblical teachings.
12. II- THE CONFRONTATION BETWEEN
THE FLESH AND THE SPIRIT
1- Flesh x Spirit. In spiritual terms, it is the greatest
struggle of the saved believer's life. The carnal nature,
inherited from Adam, is nourished by the lust of the flesh.
It leans towards the sinful structures created by the Devil in
order to draw human beings away from God. Therefore,
the apostle John wrote: “Do not love the world or the
things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the Father's
love is not in him.
13. II- THE CONFRONTATION BETWEEN
THE FLESH AND THE SPIRIT
For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the
eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but of the world”
(1 John 2:15,16). Unfortunately, many people don't want to know
about God. They are seduced and driven away from God through
various instruments: through false religions, humanism,
materialism, etc. As a result, people forget God and seek to please
the Devil and their own carnal nature, corrupted by sin. Not by
chance, the apostle Paul warned about this fight between the flesh
and the Spirit (Gl 5.16,17).
14. II- THE CONFRONTATION BETWEEN
THE FLESH AND THE SPIRIT
2- The works of the flesh. In biblical terms, from the
Greek sarx, “the flesh”, it is the fallen nature of man,
whose inclination is the practice of what does not please
God. Thus, "the works of the flesh", according to the
Epistle to the Galatians, are the practices, attitudes and
thoughts contrary to the holiness required by God for
those who are faithful to the Word.
15. II- THE CONFRONTATION BETWEEN
THE FLESH AND THE SPIRIT
Identified in at least 15 types, without closing the list, as the
biblical author adds “and things similar to these”, these
works can be classified into several categories: illicit sexual
practices (5.19); religious practices (5.20a); bad human
relationships (5:20b; 21); and vices and bad habits (5:21).
the apostle Paul closes this part of the letter, saying “that
those who commit such things will not inherit the
Kingdom of God” (Gal 5:21; cf. 1 Cor 6:9).
16. SYNOPSIS II
In spiritual terms, the confrontation between the
flesh and the Spirit is the greatest struggle in the
believer's life.
17. III- REVIVAL BY THE FRUIT OF THE
SPIRIT
1- Fruit of the Spirit. Gifts and Fruit of the Spirit are
essential characteristics of Christian life and character. The
use of spiritual gifts, without the practice of the Fruit of
the Spirit, can only be a demonstration of selfishness and
exhibitionism. Not all Christians are grace bearers of
spiritual gifts, but everyone should experience and witness
the fruit of the Spirit in their lives.
18. III- REVIVAL BY THE FRUIT OF THE
SPIRIT
A Christian cannot bear good witness without the
unity of the Fruit of the Spirit: he cannot have love
without having faith; he cannot have joy (joy) and
not have kindness, goodness or temperance (Gl
5.22,23). One aspect of the fruit cannot be
dissociated from the other. We can use the example
of a fruit, such as an orange, which has several
sections, but it is only one fruit.
19. III- REVIVAL BY THE FRUIT OF THE
SPIRIT
2- The nine aspects of the Fruit of the Spirit (Gl 5.22).
In the Bible, love (or charity) (gr. agape) is more than
philanthropy, as it means true love as a synonym of agape
love, the love of God in the human heart (Phil 1.9; 1 Jn
4.7-8,16); joy (gr. chara) is the joy produced by the Holy
Ghost (Le 8.13; Fp1.4); peace (gr.eirene) is “the peace of
God which surpasses all understanding” (Phil. 4.7);
longsuffering (gr. makrothumia) is patience to endure
adversity, the defects of the other (Eph 4.2; 2 Tm 3.10; Heb
12.1);
20. III- REVIVAL BY THE FRUIT OF THE
SPIRIT
benignity (gr. chrestotes) is the quality of someone who is benign,
kind, compliant, forgiving (Eph. 4:32); goodness (gr. agathosune)
refers to one who is good (Mt 12.35; Eph 5.9; Ps 37.23); faith (gr.
pistis), is not natural faith, but that produced by the Holy Ghost
in the hearts of those who believe in God, according to the
Scriptures (John 7.38; Rom. 1.17; 3.28; Heb. 11.6); meekness (gr.
prautes) refers to one who is meek, synonymous with “mildness,
affable, quiet, docile” (Mt 5.5; 1 Tm 6.11); temperance (gr.
egkrateia) means self-control, self-control, it is the most elevated
aspect of the relationship with others, with different situations
and facts in life (Tit 1.8; 2 Pe 1.6).
21. III- REVIVAL BY THE FRUIT OF THE
SPIRIT
3- Against the Fruit of the Spirit, there is no law. Paul's
conclusion about the fruit of the Spirit is impressive. He
states incisively and categorically: “Against these things
there is no law. And those who belong to Christ have
crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live
in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit” (Gal 5:23-25).
May God help us to cultivate the Fruit of the Spirit in our
lives. Spiritual gifts are only valuable if accompanied by the
fruit of the Spirit. Issa and living in the fullness of the
Spirit, having a truly revived life.
22. SYNOPSIS III
The use of spiritual gifts and the Fruit of the Spirit
are inseparable practices.
23. CONCLUSION
Revived believers benefit from great blessings from God,
for they walk in the Spirit, and do not walk according to the
lusts of the flesh (Gl 5.16). In addition to spiritual gifts,
they have the Fruit of the Spirit: “love, joy, peace,
longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faith, meekness,
temperance” (Gal. 5:22). Therefore, God bestows blessings
in abundance on believers who walk and live in the Spirit:
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the
heavenly places in Christ” (Eph. 1:3).
