Sesame is not ready yet

Cause of delays:
Hardware improvement (delay 1 mo.)
Design flaws to be fixed (delay 1 mo.)
Supplier delivery issues (delay 1 mo.)
But hey, I am Crowdfunder not a Buyer !

Editor's Notes
You know Domino Effects – right. One domino falls and is generating a chain reaction. I tell you a personal story where I started as crowdfunder, became a little engineer etc. etc. But before I tell you everything upfront, I better start.
Do you know what the biggest nightmare for my family is in Switzerland? No, it is not earthquakes, avalanches, tornados or any other natural disaster
The biggest disaster is when we lose or forget the front door key and lock us out. (big smile and lose the keys) Did this ever happen to you?
Well, there are professional biometric access control solutions. However, they usually cost a lot money and it is at least doubtful if they are as secure as expected.
Sesame, a crowdfunding project funded via kickstarter, (playback) seems to solve our issue.
(Both Thumbs Up !!)
That’s a done deal! I invested 139 USD. Nearly 7,500 crowdfunders pledged over 1.4 million USD of the initial 100,000 USD target – By the way, it is a great CAMS example, because it is cloud based, does some tracking, is mobile and secure!
Of course, Murphy’s law “if something can go wrong it will” can hit you, even when the probability is nearly non-existing. Our deadbolt lock is the best proof to be one of this very rare species which does not fit with Sesame.
This fact forced me to become an engineer, because there is no commercial alternative which fits. Luckily, I have the specs and found my caliper, I never have used before, I am not a … (come on) fool.
Over a weekend, I learned the functions & features of FreeCAD and was able to design my 1st Sesame conform doorknob.
I verified the 3D model with Augmented Reality in its future environment, because I made so many times in my lifetime the experience, the devil is in the detail.
The next domino stone was procurement. I used additively, a spin-off of the Swiss Federal Institute of Zurich. The procurement platform has 300 suppliers with all kind of technologies and more than 250 materials. Service quality and price were my decision criterion.
I uploaded the model to rapidobject, a 3D printing company in Leipzig, Germany. The provider printed the model with Selective Laser Sintering using PA 2200, which is a Nylon based material and fulfills FDA requirements.
I am very proud, it perfectly fits (show the print). Yes, I would even say, my prototype can be classified as a Minimal Viable Product. I do not have to add anything, the pictures tell more than words.
However, I have not received Sesame yet. The developers had to announce several delays for example to improve the hardware. But hey, I am Crowdfunder not a buyer – right?
I am pretty sure there are more Domino tiles coming, for example:
Offer my 3D template online
Design & print frames for IBM certificates (smile)
Watch industry trends, and
Discover opportunities for IBM
In Japan, the 1st house was already printed in 1981, but the industry still gains new momentum for example with new production methods as CLIP.
With this technology the print quality improves tremendously and allows new applications as printing dentures or producing parts for the automotive industry.
Summarized:
I started as a customer with a pain,
I was pushed to learn how to develop a 3D model,
I had to find the optimal 3D printing provider, and
I am now a trendscout and hope, I ignited YOU !
Can YOU imagine any additional Dominio effects for YOU, IBM and the society ? Thanks for investing 5 minutes to hear about my journey in the 3D printing world !
