3. What is SlideShare?
1. SlideShare is a useful Web 2.0 based slide hosting service.
2. Users can upload files privately or publicly in the following
file formats: PowerPoint, PDF, Keynote* or OpenOffice*
presentations, videos and webinars*.
3. Presentations can be viewed on the site itself, on hand held
devices or embedded on other sites.

6. The Founder
After growing up in India and earning a PhD
in psychology, Rashmi Sinha went to UC
Berkeley for a postdoc where she switched
her focus to human-computer interaction.
She then left academia to start her own user-
experience consultancy and developed
MindCanvas*, a game-like tool for user
research. Simultaneously, Rashmi and her
husband built SlideShare, a site for people to
share presentations online, in just six
months.

1. SlideShare launched on October 4, 2006, the website is
considered to be similar to YouTube, but for slideshows.
2. SlideShare is headquartered in San Francisco, and has an office
in New Delhi.
3. Since its launch, more than 9 million presentations have been
uploaded to SlideShare, helping professionals connect through
content. LinkedIn acquired SlideShare for over $100 million in
2012.
