Young Learners Workshop
Cecilia Maller A
 Ss get together in groups and prepare
questions for the assigned page.
 Pg 1.
 Why Language learning is a hard work?
 Because effort is required at every moment
and must be maintained over a long period of
time.
 They not only help, but algo encourage many
learners to sustain their interest and work.
 They also help the teacher to create contexs
in which the lg. Is useful and meaningful
 It is that the learners respond to the content
in a definite way. If they are
amused, angered, intrigued or surprised the
content is clearly meaningful to them.
How well- chosen games help students?
 They are considered invaluable as they give
students a break and at the same time allow
students to practise language skills.
 They improve motivation, since they are
amusing and at the same time challenging.
 They also improve the use of the language, as
it is used in real contexts.
 They also improve cooperation, as most of
the games are a group activity.
 Highly useful to give practice in all language
skills and be used to practice many types of
communication.
 Which are the advantages of using games in
the classroom?
 1. they are: a welcome break
 2. Motivating and challenging
 3. Help Ss to make and sustain the effort of
learning.
 4. provide language practice in the various
skills.
 5. Encourage Ss to interact and communicate
 6.Create a meaningful context for lg. Use.
 All of them: Speaking, listening, reading and
writing.
 That they are just time-filling exercises, but
they have proven to have a great educational
value.
 He says that” most language games make
learners use the language instead of thinking
about learning correct forms”
 As they are highly motivating and
entertaining, and they can give shy
students more opportunities to express
their opinions and feelings.
 They also enable learners to acquire new
experiences within a foreign lg. which are
not always possible during a typical
lesson.
 Why the “break the ice” activities are useful?
 Because they add diversion to the regular
classroom activities, they are great to
introduce new ideas.
 The benefit is that games add
diversion, break the ice, and a great source to
present new ideas.
 As soon as the atmosphere relaxes, Ss
remember things faster and better.
 Real learning takes place, and students use
the language they have been exposed to and
have practised earlier.
 Because games provide a good model of
what learners will use the language for in
real life in the future.
 He says that games should not be regarded
as a marginal activity filling odd moments
when the teacher and class have nothing
better to do.
 Games ought to be at the heart of teaching
foreign languages.
 They say that that is provoked by games, but
they are still worth paying attention to and
implementing in the classroom since they
motivate learners, promote communicative
competence, and generate fluency.
 They have proven to be effective and to have
advantages in learning vocab. in various
ways.
 1. bring relaxation and fun_so Ss learn and
retain new words easily.
 2. Involve friendly competition and maintain
interest.
 3. Bring real world context into the
classroom, and enhance students´use of
English in a flexible, communicative way.
 1-Which factors have to be considered when choosing a game for children ?

 2- Why English vocabulary games are considered more than just mere fun ?

 3-What can children do with their enviroment through games ?

 4-Mention 3 suggestions when choosing a game ?

 5-What should a game involve ?

 6-Which is the main focus of the game according to language learning in children
?

 7-Which opportunities can games give to the students ?

