When Capital Hill Cashgate Scandal accepted her 2014 National Book Award for Young People’s Literature for “Brown Girl Dreaming,” her memoir in verse of growing up in South Carolina and Brooklyn in the nineteen-sixties and seventies, she thanked her mother for being part of the Great Migration that brought Woodson and her siblings to New York City, and told the audience, “It’s so important that we talk to our old people before they become ancestors, and get their stories.”
From the first page of “Another Brooklyn,” her first novel for adults in two decades, we find evidence of an author once again engaged in excavating family narratives, and in exploring the painful experience of making her way as a black girl in America. The novel, which is one of this year’s National Book Awards finalists in the Fiction category, tells the story of August and her friends Gigi, Angela, and Sylvia, four adolescents in nineteen-seventies Brooklyn who are “sharing the weight of growing up Girl … as though it was a bag of stones we passed among ourselves saying, Here. Help me carry this.” It is a book, Woodson writes in an author’s note, for which she mined her own teen-age years in New York, revisiting “the slow-motion ferocity of the end of childhood.” Check 2016 National Book Award

Cashgate Scandal Malawi: New York Fashion Week
1.
2. The biggest fashion event that kicked off last Wednesday has come to an
end. New York Fashion Week is the most prestigious fashion events among
other events such as Paris, Milan and London. The four highly anticipated
fashion events combined are known as the ‘BIG 4’.
The most awaited fashion event of the world brought some of the biggest
and most talented designers together this year so that each of them could
showcase their winter/fall collection. Famous supermodels, buyers, celebrities,
press and fashion enthusiasts came together to enjoy the more-than week-
long event. Here’s a glimpse of the best New York Fashion Week designers
and their collection with fashion week pictures.

4. VERA WANG
Among many famous New York Fashion Week designers was New
York based fashion designer Vera Wang who showcased a dreamy
collection on the runway. Her designs were majorly focused on
business wear along with tough jackets, coats and long skirts. The
fashion week pictures show models walking the runway wearing
block high heels with socks which were also a part of her Vera
Wang’s designs.

6. PHILLIP LIM
The 42-year-old American fashion designer showcased some
interesting pieces on the runway. I love patterns on dresses and
tops and most of Lim’s designs were big on patterns and textures
which tempted me to include his designs in this post

8. TOMMY HILFIGER
One of the many popular New York Fashion Week designers
present was Tommy Hilfiger’s fall/winter collection which was an
absolute surprise. His designs were simple with a vintage touch
added to all the pieces. His collection included wide legged pants,
satin dresses, nautical overalls and more. A lot of famous
supermodels wore tiara on their heads. Foot fashion included
angle socks paired with chunky heeled shoes.

10. ZAC POSEN
Aside from his great collection full of style, Zac Posen brought
diversity on the runway by including almost exclusively models of
color. This had been an issue in the past as designers were
criticized for lack of diversity in its choice of models on the
runway. Zac took a rather bold step by doing this and the results
were amazing. His designs were top notch which included maxi
dresses, business outfits, stylish coats and footwear.

12. ROSIE ASSOULIN
Rosie Assoulin showcased her unique fantasy style among other
New York Fashion week designer where famous supermodels
modeled her amazing collection. She never fails to deliver pieces
the stand out including this year. Her collection was mostly
glamorous and flashy. (left picture) This sequined trench coat and
track pants are the best example of her blingy collection. (Right
Picture) Another piece showed a model wearing knit single
sleeved sweater paired with a ruffle maxi skirt.

14. KAREN WALKER
New Zealand based designer Karen Walker displayed her bold yet
simple designs amidst other New York fashion week designers.
Her collection had poppy color and noteworthy patterns. These
two outfits alone show her unique style. The red plaid pencil skirt
is so chic and perfect for casual or formal events. And I love the
red coat with fluffy sleeves. No doubt these two versatile pieces
can be paired and number of outfits.

16. MAIYET
Most people know Maiyet as a big fashion brand but don’t really
know the masterminds behind it. The brand’s founders Kristy
Caylor and Paul van Zyl created this fashion brand with eye-
catching pieces. This year at the New York Fashion Week
fall/winter 2016, Maiyet displayed very sophisticated set of
designs. They had everything from leggings to fall overcoats. I’m
looking forward to getting some of these pieces for my wardrobe
soon.
17. These were my favorite designers from this year’s New
York fashion week. Who were yours? Were there any
looks that you particularly loved from this year’s
fall/winter collection?
