NARRATIVE AND STYLE
This piece is a 'Narrative style' music vdeio
where the band 'cameo' towards the end to
sing a section of this song as the main actress
and actor listen and dance together. This
piece portrays a dreamlike 'young love' as the
woman fantisies what life would have been
like had she left the funeral with the man. In
her dreams they roadtrip across America,
eventually marrying only for her to wake up
and realise it was all a fantasy of what reality
could have been.

LIGHTING AND COLOUR
The lighting varies in this
piece but can be summarised
as very 'natrual'. There are
moments where they are
almost I complete darkness
contrasted with bright,sunny,
daylight.
Colour is very natrual in this
piece and ranges to make the
music video feel very 'real'
and true to life. In one
significant scene is a pink
sunset, enphasing ideas of
romance the audience may
connect the colour and time
of day, highlighting how this is
the everyday persons
'perfect', romance fantasy

COSTUME AND PROPS
Costume choice is very
casual. The womans wedding
dress in the dream is merely
a red playsuit which makes
the story of their love seem
very down to earth and raw
as they didn’t care how grand
the wedding was. This is
deemed desirable for
audiences beliving this is the
idea of 'true' love.
Natrual scenes such as an
average house, sunset or
real-life cities like las vegas
are used to give a very 'down
to earth' and 'real' feeling to
the piece. The main prop
arguably is the car which they
use to travel on their love
story.

SHOT TYPES
Shot types vary from wide to close up. A lot of shots are tracking
shots, giving the piece a natrual feel. Close up shots are at
intimate moments such as in her dream when they dance under
the pink sunset or after they marry, making the narrative very
personal and highlighting clearly the fantasy of 'young love'.

INTERTEXTUALITY
Although not much interetextuality is present, the Lumineers
have cleverly linked three of their music videos together. For
example, In their music video for 'Cleapatra' the audience will
notice the same young couple as in 'sleep on the floor' getting in
the back of taxi when they, at the beginning of the music video,
leave the funeral in the womans dreams of what would
happen if they ran away together.
