A Moringa Tree Planting Initiative in St. Vincent
1.
2. Maintaining a well-established textile recycling
program, Campus California uses raised funds
to assist partner organizations, which guide
development projects throughout Latin America,
Africa, and the Caribbean. Campus California’s
partners provide training and support of local
efforts, including the 2013 planting of 10,000
Moringa olifeira trees by the Richmond Vale
Academy on the island of St. Vincent. Volunteer
teachers and activists undertook the tree
planting spanning 20 Caribbean villages.
3. The aim of this initiative goes beyond
beautifying the environment. Many parts of the
Moringa are edible, including their leaves, which
contain protein and vitamins C, B, and A.
Additionally, the branches and leaves can be
used to feed livestock. Extracts from the leaves
are utilized as a nutrient-rich fertilizer, which can
increase crop yield by as much as 30 percent.
The tree’s fast growth rate makes it ideal as a
year-around nutrient source.
4. The Richmond Vale teachers’ council’s
planting activities were coordinated as part
of the 10 years Climate Compliance
Conference program, which addresses major
environmental issues such as deforestation.
