Phailin was a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm (on IMD scale) which devastated almost 15 districts of Odisha on 12th October 2013. It was the second-strongest tropical cyclone ever to make landfall in India. Print, television, digital media, and not to forget, the newly trending social media had done a commendable role in the reduction of human casualties as well as other losses during Cyclone Phailin. Media was a key element for dissemination of information among the common mass regarding the cyclone to increase the preparedness.
