Editor's Notes

  1. Current Issues in Education by Brett Burg
  2. Federal funding for education is a big issue in America. Students need this money so that they can receive the proper education they need. They need every opportunity so that they can be successful. This is why the government starts programs like Head Start, Early Head Start, Child Care and Development Block Grants.
  3. Why are these programs so important? The future of America is with these children and we need to get them the best education possible. We don’t want to leave our great country of ours with people who are uneducated. They need the education that can put them ahead.
  4. What is federal funding? Well it simply is the money that the government gives to fund educational programs. For example, head start and early head start.
  5. With some funding schools and districts can do great things. They can make more programs which helps give more students the education they need. Like Montgomery County, they went from 13 programs which helped 260 students, to 21 programs which helped out 420 students.
  6. What is being done about the shortage of money in educational programs? The stimulus package has 12.2 billion dollars funding special education programs. Another 13 billion dollars is used to help out lower income families.
  7. The stimulus package is an attempt to boost the economy in America. It is also a way to give some money to education. Even in hard economical times, education needs to thrive.
  8. For special education fundsthe government is giving around 12 billion dollars over the next 2 years for special education programs.
  9. Federally funded programs like Head Start and Early Head Start help millions of families. In these hard times some families can’t help their children and they need the government to help them out for the time being.
  10. Education is very important in America and we can’t let bed times keep children from being the best people they can be. Federal funding helps get these kids better programs in school. These children going to school everyday are the people who will run this country in 20 years, so we need to give them everything they need to put them ahead.
