Students read pages 433-438 to complete a
foldable for issues discussed in the section.
• Birth of the Republican Party
• Dred Scott v Sandford
• Lincoln/Douglas Debates
• John Brown and Harper’s Ferry
Paper is folded so that you have doors that open
from the inside out. The outside flaps have the
name of the topic (see above). In the middle
section is student notes on the subject. On the
left side is causes (what led up to the issue) and
on the right side are affects of the issue (what
issues came out of it, etc.).

create a social media page from it. An
effective page would have multiple
voices contributing to the issue and
pictures that relate to the issue among
other things.
