Overview of the Sector
4. • Region’s specialty food sector has been showing positive
signs of growth over the last three years
• Average estimated growth rates
• 5 % for the Dominican Republic,
• 9% for Jamaica,
• 21% for Trinidad and Tobago, and
• 52% for Saint Lucia.

6. Caribbean Kitchen at ANUGA 2015 (Germany)
•Anuga is the largest food and beverage trade fair in Europe
with over 155,000 trade visitors from 187 countries for each of
6,000 plus exhibitors.
•12 regional food and beverage firms exhibited at Anuga with
products such as beer, rums, sauces and condiments,
chocolates and jams and jellies
•Nine of these companies were able to secure over 57 leads
with an estimated order value of US$430,000
•Participants were able to strengthen their knowledge and
understanding of the EU market for Caribbean imports
•Three companies were awarded the Taste of the show award

12. Establishing a linkage to the tourism market within the
region requires:
• Bringing hotels and restaurants in the region on a
buyer’s platform.
• A co-brand be created that highlights the fact that
these products have been locally produced, have lower
food- miles and form a part of the tourist’s Caribbean
experience. The co-brand encourages each company
to showcase their individual competitive advantage,
thus retaining the competition within the sector.
Linkages to Tourism
13. • EU-ACP-TBT Sponsored programme valued at 150,000
euro aimed at building the food safety management
capacity of 60 service providers and 80 private sector
companies in the region – currently ongoing.
• Project sponsored under CARTFUND to develop the
market access specialty food and beverage sector in the
region. Project valued at over US$1,000,000
• Project was aimed at “Developing an In-market liaison for
Caribbean Food Producers” as well as “Map the demand
for specialty foods in the Caribbean”

14. • Food Safety Grants aimed at improving the food safety
capacity of regional firms. In 2014, 22 grants were
awarded totaling €201,904.90
• EU-ACP-TBT Sponsored programme valued at 150,000
