The document provides an evaluation of the student's production process for their fashion brand project. It summarizes their research on existing brands, distribution of a questionnaire to their target audience, planning activities including mind maps and mood boards, and time management. It also includes sections on technical and aesthetic qualities of their designs, audience appeal, and peer feedback received.
3. Research
For my research I looked at existing brands, the main brands that I looked at were Palace, Nike
and Highsnobiety. The first strength of researching existing brands is being able to look at how
they established themselves as a successful brand and how they kept popularity. This influenced me on
how to gain and keep popularity when creating my own brand. Another strength of my research is that
I looked at different type of brands that are all unique, this influenced me and my brand because it
shows that you have to stand out and be different from other brands to gain my target audience. This
is because if my brand is too similar to any other big, successful corporation, the audience would
most likely choose them over my brand. However, a weakness of my research is that I haven't looked at
a wide enough variety of brands. This is a weakness because all the brands I have researched are all in
the same category. Although, my brand will be in the same category, I want to strive to reach a
wider audience from all types of styles. I could improve my research by looking at more diverse brands
from different styles, this would improve my brand because I would take different aspects of their style
and apply it to mine to try appeal to their audience.
The second thing I did for my research was, I sent out a questionnaire to my target audience. In
my questionnaire, I asked questions such as, what fashion brands they like?, why they like these
brands?, their age? And what designs they like the best? The first strength of communicating with my
target audience is that I get to gage what they like and dislike when buying clothing. This helps me
while creating my brand because it highlights what the majority of my audience are looking for when
buying clothes. I can embed these things into my own brand. However, a weakness to this is that
I didn’t distribute the questionnaire as well as I would have wanted. This is a weakness because
I didn’t get as much engagement as I would have liked, this meant that I didn’t get the full idea of
what my target audience wanted. The way I could improve this is by distributing my questionnaire to
a wider variety of people, I could do this by posting on websites such as Reddit and LinkedIn.
4. Planning
The first thing in my planning was create two mind maps, one mind map was
based on my street wear brand, I put ideas for potential brand names, how my
clothing is going to be made and the products I am going to sell. For my second
mind map, it was based on advertising, this includes ideas about my posters
and magazine cover. A strength of creating mind maps is that I can have a
written document full of potential ideas for the future of my brand. This helps
me with my brand because whenever I get stuck, I can look back at my mind
maps for ideas. However, a weakness of creating written mind maps is they can
be untidy and can be difficult to understand. The way I can improve this is by
making my mind maps neater and easier to read and understand.
The second thing I did in my planning was create four mood boards,
these were on street wear brand logos, posters, magazine covers and clothing.
This helped me when creating these individual products, because they gave me
inspiration and if I was ever stuck on ideas, I could look at my mood boards.
However, a weakness of creating my mood boards is I gathered a bunch of
photos from the same style, which means I didn’t have a big enough variety of
photos for ideas. I could improve this by gathering photos from more of a
variety of brands.
5. Time Management
I feel like I dealt with my time management okay but not the best. This is because I kept of
getting behind on work and having to catch up. This is at vault of me and of a couple
complications I have come across, such as coronavirus. when we first started this project we
were still in lockdown where we couldn’t be in college, this effect the start of my project
massively because there would be some days where I had no motivation at all to do work due
to being stuck inside. If I would have been at college I would have had the motivation to do
the work when I had to. Another complication I have come across is an eye operation I had at
the end of the project this held me back a lot due to not being in college and having to rest.
With the operation being an eye one I haven't been able to look at a computer screen for a
long deration of time this has held me back because I had to keep taking breaks because of
the pain from my eye, this happened around the time I was doing my evaluation so it took me
a long time to complete it.
I completed my project on time, yet if I had more time a couple of my products wold of been
improved . These products are my poster and my magazine cover , the improvements I would
make on my poster would be everything because I kept getting behind of work and having to
catch up I may have rushed my poster and that's why if I had more time I would of improved
this. For my magazine I would have taken more time to get the photo on the front cover to a
better standard because I think it looks very amateur right now. I wold of done this by getting
better lighting and doing this with a studio backdrop.
6. Technical Qualities
The first similarity between these two magazine are the
poisoning of the models there both in the centre on the
magazine and the main focus point. The second similarity
between the products is the font is behind the model this is a
tactic to make sure the main focus point is on the model
because that’s what the brand want the audience to look at.
The third similarity is that both magazines use Japanese writing
within the font cover.
However the first difference between these two magazine is
the colour pallet. The magazine on the left has a very vibrant
colour pallet with the blue and yellow theme they have and this
makes the magazine more eye-catching to the audience. Yet the
magazine of the left has a very monotone colour pallet with just
black and white. This makes the magazine look very plain and
not eye-catching to the audience. The second difference
between these two magazines are the models. This is because
the model on the right has a smart formal look outfit on and a
very smart look in general and the one of the left has a very
urban street wear look to him.
The first similarity between these to logos are the boldness of
both of them this is great for a logo because it will show very
clearly on the items of clothing. The second similarity of both of
these logos are the fact that both fonts of the name are very
easy to read and also very masculine with the sharp edges this
targets there target audience with them both targeting young
males.
The first difference from these logos are the fact that the palace
logo on the right has an infinite triangle which the name of the
brand is embedded in these is different to the one on the left
because that’s just the font on its own.
7. Aesthetic Qualities
. MAGZINE.
I think my magazine looks very good, this because of the urban
street look it has to it and this was what I was going for while
creating my magazine . I believe my magazine is creative because
of the style of the model and look it give off is a street, grungy
look. However I have gone down the generic route of the model
standing in front of the text and that being the centre of the
page. The main thing I would change
about my magazine would be the
photo, this is because I would want
the quality to be much better
because I think it looks very
unprofessional, the way I would
change this is by going into a studio
with a better camera and better
lighting because if the photo looked
better I would have no complaints
about this magazine because other
than the quality of the photo it is
exactly how I wanted it.
. DESIGN 1.
I think my design looks very cool and stylish. I think this because
of the pop arty style it has to it and
I think it’s a very unique design. I believe this is very
creative because normally when making a clothing brand,
Your first pieces of clothing are just your logo yet I have gone
and made a whole unique design which is different and stylish. The main and only thing I would
change about this design is the speech bubble because I think the inside of these looks tacky and
amateur. I would change this by making it a lot more simplistic and have less going on. For
example just having the word solitude in there not have it 7 times.
.DESIGN 2.
I think my second design again looks very cool and stylish. This is because of the abstract
look it has to the Buddha and again I think this design it unique. Again I believe this is very
creative because normally when making a clothing brand, Your first pieces of clothing are
just your logo yet I have gone and made a whole unique design which is different and
stylish. I only thing I would change about this design is adding some
colour because I think with some colour it would make it look so
much better.
.POSTER.
I think my poster looks good
yet not the best. I
think because it
looks rushed and very
amateur. I don’t think
this poster is as creative
as it could be because its
very simplistic. The one
slightly creative thing about
this poster is the background
because it is quite cool and
different.
the first think I would change is
the photo this is because I think
this photo doesn’t show of the
clothing of the product I am trying to
showcase. The second thing I would change is change the p
to an s to make it more on brand and not showing of another
brand more than mine. The third thing I would change is the
background, I do like the background I just think it could
have been done a lot better and had more thought go into
this.
.LOGO.
I think my logo is cool and different . This because of the font being of centre and each letter being on an angle. I would say that my logo is not creative
because all I have done is wrote my brand name in a font yet the font is different to other brand but I still wouldn’t say it was that creative. The only think I
would change about my logo is adding more colourful and possibly adding a shape or a design around it to make it less simplistic. I would do this by make the
font more vibrant and colour and designing a small design for the logo so it gives more of a street wear look.
8. Audience Appeal
I believe with my production I have appealed to my target audience because my target
audience are young middle class males interested in the street wear culture.my
production has a very street wear style to it and is quite simplistic colour wise with me
using mostly black and white and this is why it appeals to my audience because it's very
much in style at the moment. I think my magazine the photo far left won't appeal to my
audience a lot. This is due to the fact in my questionnaire I asked the question , do you
buy magazine and the response was 100% no so I don’t believe this will appeal to my
audience.
10. Feedback 1
What did you like about the product?
The product is fully on show, it’s the centrepiece of the
magazine cover
The brand logo is cool and visible
What improvements could have been made to
the product?
More bold colours, makes it stand out.
11. Feedback 2
What did you like about the product?
I liked the outfit that the model was wearing and how
the name of the brand is subtly printed on the jumper
What improvements could have been made to
the product?
The product also isn't fully shown in the picture, you
can only see the name of the brand.
12. Feedback 3
What did you like about the product?
The man and the woman image is inventive, very clever
to add the speech bubble with the name of the brand
inside of it
It's cool
What improvements could have been made to
the product?
Needs more colour, dark colours used and not enough
light. Could have colour in the name of the brand in the
speech bubble.
13. Peer Feedback Summary
• What do you agree with from your peer
feedback?
I agree with the feedback on my poster I believe that
the brand should have been printed on the clothing
and better and a lot more clear.
• What do you disagree with from your peer
feedback?
i don’t agreed with the feedback I got on my magazine
cover because I believe that my magazine cover does not
need to be more colourful. This is because the style I was
going for was a dark grungy street look and the colours I
have used have matched the style I wanted to create.
14. Peer Feedback Summary
The change I would make to my products from my feedback are the
comments I got on my poster because I completely agree. i would
make sure that my brand is a lot more clearer on the piece of clothing
the model is wearing. I would change this because it is not clear
enough when that’s meant to be the thing I'm promoting with the
poster.
Another change I would make from my feedback would be the
comments I got on the colour aspect of design one. I would change
this because I agree that it needs to be more colourful because with it
just being black and white it won't stand out as much on a piece of
clothing. I would improve this by taking there feedback on board and
putting a bit of colour in the speech bubble because I think this would
make it more eye catching for the audience.
