Billions of dollars are spent every year on math education. But students return home every day to hear parents say, "Math scares me," or "I'm not a math person," or "When it comes to math, I have your father do it." This sends the message that math should be feared and avoided.
All the programs aimed to help students engage in math are battling the messages from home. And losing.
That's Math! lets teachers send parents positive math statements via text messages. Parents can then say these - easily and without anxiety - to their children. This increases math vocabulary at home, decreases anxiety and gets rid of the negative math talk that is hindering children's learning.

2. Changing Math Education!
From the Inside!
Student Parent Teacher
The goal is to get
students open and
receptive to math
learning.
Parents need to use
positive social
modeling in math,
instead of saying how
hard it is for them.
Teachers help them do this
by sending home positive
math statements (from
That’s Math!) for them to
say to their children.
