Over the past few years, many things have changed within the sales and
marketing industry. In fact just a few years ago it was very easy for virtually any
business to establish an online and offline presence to generate a customer
base and create sales. But times truly have changed…
For instance... for any type of business to establish a high quality online
presence in today's world, you better be prepared to spend hundreds of hours
creating a viable business website loaded with relevant content or spend
thousands of dollars in advertising online... otherwise it's just not going to

Pay Per Click Marketing
This is by far the leader in the industry for online advertising mediums
Fact: While successful businesses and marketers can afford to spend $10,000 to
$25,000 a month using pay per click advertising, the average business or marketing
professional cannot.
This is exactly why many small businesses and marketing professionals get squeezed
out of this type of advertising medium very quickly. I've known businesses and
marketing professionals over the years that have lost thousands utilizing this type of
advertising and will never even attempt to go through that experience again.

What many fail to understand is that search engines like Google and Yahoo control this
industry and they make billions of dollars a year by doing so. It literally is their job to
consistently raise advertising rates on keywords from those who utilize their services.

perfect marketing campaign and things seem to be going well, the next thing you know

Fact: Organic search results rely on advanced SEO tactics, user friendly websites and
very relevant content related to specific keywords if you ever hope to receive a high
page rank organically with any search engine.
Again, this is exactly why many small businesses and marketing professionals can
never succeed through this type of marketing. To acquire and maintain a high page
rank organically for any website requires many man hours and the knowledge on how
to accomplish it. This is why many businesses and marketing professionals actually
hire outside firms to create and maintain their websites for them. Whether you believe
it or not, these firms charge their clients thousands per month for their services just to
acquire and maintain a high page rank within the search engines.
The Real Winner: The outside firms that provide these services!
You see, a firm will usually take on as many clients as it can handle while at the same
time charging top dollar for their work to get your website to the top of the search
engines. The legitimate firms will usually charge anywhere from $15,000 to $25,000 a
month to their clients. If a client should leave them, it's not a problem as they usually
have a waiting list of clients they will take the next open position they have
immediately. Other firms are also know in the industry for charging much less to their
clients, but usually with these types of firms the only thing you receive is a receipt for
you payment and nothing in return. The main point is if you do not carry the knowledge
and the staff to put in the man hours required, or you do not have a budget to hire a
legitimate firm to get you to the top of the search engines, it's virtually impossible to
achieve it.

6. The next couple of examples include offline marketing mediums which have
been used consistently for decades, and there's a good chance that you may
have even tried them.
So let's take a look...
Direct Mail
This is by far the leader in the industry for offline advertising mediums
Fact: While successful businesses and marketers can afford to spend $5,000 to
$15,000 a month or more on direct mail, the average business cannot.
It's common knowledge that for any type of direct mail campaign to work, it needs to be
maintained consistently month after month and many small businesses simply do not
have the budget to carry out a direct mail campaign consistently on a monthly basis. In
fact, most can only afford to do it once or twice with a very small budget and if their
campaign isn't successful the first couple of times then they are out of the game.

The mailing list providers by far are the rulers in the direct mail industry. They set the
price on their lists, work with other list providers within their industry and even resell
used list to other brokers for them to resell again. This is exactly why you have to
maintain consistency with any direct mail campaign for at least a period of three
months or more to achieve real results. Sometimes the list you're mailing out to may be
overused and worthless, other times you may get a fresh list that gives you a great
response. Because many small businesses do not have the budget to carry a direct
mail campaign in this fashion, they'll do what I call a "1 shot wonder" and hope for the
best, and when that doesn't work they will usually give up.

7. Newspaper And Magazine Advertising
Comes in second for offline advertising under direct mail marketing.
Fact: To maintain an effective print media campaign the average business or
marketing professional needs a monthly budget of $3,000 to $10,000 and should run
their campaign for a minimum of 3 to 4 months.
Again... this is another reason why so many small businesses and marketing
professionals cannot compete within this medium, they simply do not have the budget.
Many only have a budget to place one or two ads, so they will place the ads and hope
for the best. This is a very costly mistake as statistics prove that the average person
will only respond to an ad after they have seen it a few times. If you only have the
budget to place your advertising a couple of times, your marketing campaign is already
going against what statistics have proven for over the last 50 years. Regardless, many
small businesses and marketing professionals will place their ad anyway and lose
everything when their results do not come in like they had hoped they would.
The Real Winner: The newspapers and the magazines!
Magazines and newspapers make profits by only selling one product... advertising
space! Not to mention that many charge thousands for a single display ad. This is why
successful business and marketing professionals with a big monthly advertising budget
utilize this type of marketing. This way their advertisements can be seen monthly, and
with repetition the people respond to it. In the mean time, small businesses and
marketing professionals with a tight budget cannot carry the same weight! So they'll
take a chance and spend their entire nest egg on one or two ads and the results are
usually devastating. I've seen this happen to hundreds of small businesses and
marketing professionals over the years and 99% of them end up losing their money
instead of building their profits.
