Gender
The representation of genre has been depicted
in the media product. The main protagonist
(Jack) is shown as quite a rough character. This
is shown through mise-en-scene and his
costume. We have put him in a baggy hoodie
and tracksuit bottoms, to show that he is scruffy
and not bothered about his appearance. I think
we created this successfully.
He is also shown as ready; this is shown through mise-
en-scene, his room is quite empty, the only personal
items are the things on his bedside table. Also in some of
the shots you can see his bags under his bed showing
that if he needs to, he can get away fast and easily. He is
shown as masculine and physically tough; this will be
shown later on in the film, when he gets into fights with
his customers. You are also shown his past later on in
the film, when he mistreats him girlfriend.
Jack is shown as quite a lonely character. You can
see this by the establishing shot. He is on his own,
not really any personal possessions, no photos
suggesting that he hasn’t really got any family or
anyone that he is particularly close to, nothing to
indicate that he is living with someone else.
The money on the wall suggests that maybe he has
been travelling. Also we have made out character
different by cutting him away form the stereotypical
drug dealer by giving him a hobby, and something
he can collect. It gives him a sense of normality so
it’s quite important to him.
He is also shown as quite a brave man. This is
shown through mise-en-scene and props. As the
viewer will see in the first few minutes will be
that he is a drug dealer. It isn’t exactly a safe
occupation. It’s going against the law, but there
is also the danger from the competition of rival
gangs and dealers that he can get into trouble
with. So this asks the question: is he brave or
just stupid?
Class and Status
There is a contrast of high and low class and
status. His lower class attributes is shown by the
clothes that he wears. The scruffy hoodie and
tracksuit bottoms indicate that he is lower class
and that he doesn’t rally care about his
appearance. Also the location of his room, we
don’t really see the rest of his house, but the
fact that he is sorting out the drugs on his
bedside table implies that maybe he doesn’t
have a very big house, or maybe that he’s just
renting out a room and he doesn’t have much
space.
Lower class is shown through the phone call he
gets. The way he gets up and leaves straight
However he is also shown as quite high in social after indicates that he is getting orders form a
class and status because of his profession. He is higher power and that he isn’t completely in

scared of him. We also don’t really know much
about him, there is an aura of mystery around him,
and this would imply that maybe we don’t know
how he will react to certain situations.
