Pretend you are nibbling a scone at a local Starbucks. At the table to the left of you sit “the
Carls” (Rogers & Jung). Eventually, two other gentlemen join the table – one is Freud (who
must put his cigar out before he walks in, ha!), the other is Alfred Adler. You can’t help but
overhear their semi-heated debate. They are talking about a film, TV, book, or other popular
character in our current time (the choice is up to you!). They are describing (or, better said,
arguing!) the personality of that character through the perspective of their own personality
theory. Your job is to dictate their conversation by writing it down in dialogue format.This
will look kind of like a screenplay, with dialogue and stage directions, like this:Set up the
scene, what you are doing and what gets your attention. Maybe you are the narrator.Rogers:
(setting down his muffin) Says Something Here.Jung: (who obviously is excited to add
something) Says Something Else.Maybe some stage direction here.Freud: (chimes in) Says
something.Alder: (looking perplexed) Adds in his two centsThe guys go back and forth, and
the narrator summarizes and ends the conversation.Have a good time with this one! Make
an effort to demonstrate your knowledge not just of these personality theories, but also the
character/personality of the four fellas as well. As these four influential personality
theorists make their points, you will be demonstrating your knowledge of these theories
and you will be applying them specifically to the tv, film, book character or person in pop
culture you chose. Most importantly, you will be comparing and contrasting their ideas. This
assignment, therefore, captures many of our learning objectives, so make sure your paper
does all of these things.Please bring in four sources when pulling together this screenplay.
These will be listed in a reference section at the end of your paper. Since this is a weird
format, I won’t expect you to use in-text citations. Only a reference section at the end.
References should be listed in APA format.Your paper can still be organized in the
traditional introduction, body, conclusion format. You’ll have to set the stage and the fellas
will need to orient the reader to the person/character they are analyzing (intro), they’ll
need to make and argue their point of view (body), and then they will need to bring
everything together and end the conversation before they get up to leave (conclusion). The
narrator is welcome to enter the fray as well.This paper should reach the 1500 word mark,
not including the reference section.
