2. What is privacy about today
Privacy today if mainly centered around technology as well as the growing
amount of data that is being collected about everybody around the world.
But the larger debate between technology firms and law enforcement authorities over data privacy and
access remains.
-Arjun Kharpal on the Apple vs FBI issue
The agreement should allow companies to transfer EU citizens’ data for processing or storage within
the US
-Samuel Gibbs on Privacy Shield
3. Privacy and Region
With the Privacy Shield issue
there is a noticeable group of
tweets of 7% that have emerged
mostly tweeting about the
privacy shield issue
However Privacy Shield mainly
affects only the european area
making its overall impact less
significant on twitter.
4. Privacy and current events
Half of the tweets (out of 117,624)
pertained to either the Privacy
Shield, or Apple vs FBI issue.
Out of those tweets Apple vs FBI
took up 81 Percent of those tweets,
and of that same set apple took up
46 percent of the tweets.
Twitter is mostly a grounds for discussing current events, but of those current events it is apparent
that the most discussed topics are the ones that directly affect those using twitter
Mostly Americans are using twitter, and the majority of Americans who are involved in privacy
disputes are directly connected via their iPhones
5. Correlation between dates and
tweets February 17th- FBI issues request
for apple to unlock iPhones
February 18th- Twitter CEO
expresses support towards apple
February 20th- FBI admits that
San Bernardino County helped
FBI to gain access to cloud backup
data
February 14th- Article is released about the complications pertaining to Privacy
Shield, and disagreements start to come up about how the issue is being handled.
6. How does this all connect?
These bread crumbs tell a more accurate story of our lives than
anything we choose to reveal about ourselves
-Alex Pentland The Data Driven Society
The data that was collected about the topic of privacy is a mass of
breadcrumbs that come together to form a bigger story about the
group of who posted as a whole
We can get a good look at how modern discussions are based more on
the current events rather than what has happened in the past or what
will happen in the future
