PRONATORS

2. PRONATION:
rotation of the hand and forearm so that the palm
faces backwards or downwards.

3. PRONATOR TERES
Origin:
• Humeral head: medial epicondyle of humerus
• Ulnar head: medial boarder of coronoid
process of ulna
Insertion: lateral aspect of shaft of radius
Nerve supply: median nerve

4. PRONATOR QUADRATUS:
ORIGIN: Anterior surface of shaft ulna
INSERTION: Anterior surface of shaft of radius
NERVE SUPPLY : Anterior interosseous branch
of median nerve
Pronation is assisted by
• Palmaris longus
• Brachioradialis
• Flexor carpi radialis

5. RESISTED EXERCISE:
Patient position:
Patient is in short sitting with elbow flexed at right angle
Hand placement :
 Therapist is in front of patient with
one hand stabilizing the humerus
 Other hand grasp the patient wrist
or “ Hand Shake” grasp
 With his first and second finger extended on anterior side
 Risistance is given
Instructions: Move your hand downward

 Self resistance
 Use of therabands

7. ASSISTED EXERCISE
Patient position:
Patient is in short sitting with elbow flexed at right angle
Hand placement :
 Therapist is in front of patient with
one hand stabilizing the humerus
 Other hand grasp the patient wrist
or “ Hand Shake” grasp
 With his first and second finger extended on anterior side
 Assistance is given where needed

1. Sitting: forearm supported supination pronation
2. Sitting: take match sticks from therapist and put it on table
3. Sitting :tap ruler held in hand from side to side on table
4. Sitting :pouring grains from one plate to another
5. Standing : (unscrewing) turn the handle of door
6. Standing: moving hammer or weight downward
