2. 2. 1.
X's "no late admission" policy for the film Y was pretty controversial, which was unusual for the time. It was not entirely original as Clouzot had done the same in France for Les Diaboliques. X thought that if people entered the theater late and never saw the star actress ______, they would feel cheated. At first theater owners opposed the idea, claiming that they would lose business. However, after the first day, the owners enjoyed long lines of people waiting to see the film.
4. 4. 3.
X is a black and white amateur film written by Craig Hamann and Y and directed by Y, while he was working at the now shuttered Video Archives in Manhattan Beach, California. The project started in 1984, when Hamann wrote a short 30-40 page script about a young man who continually tries to do something nice for his friend's birthday, only to have his efforts backfire.
Y became attached to the project as co-writer and director, and he and Hamann expanded the short script into an 80 page script. On an estimated budget of $5,000, they shot the film on 16mm over the course of the next four years. Hamann and Y starred in the film, along with several video store and acting class buddies, and worked on the crew, which included fellow Video Archives employees Rand Vossler and Roger Avary. It is the most overtly comedic film that Y has made.
The original cut was about 70 minutes long but due to a fire only 36 minutes of the film survived. The 36 minute cut has been shown at several film festivals. It has never been officially released.
Y has referred to this film as his "film school". Although the film was by his own admission very poorly directed, the experience gained from the film helped him in directing future films.
5. 5. 4.
X's original name was The Scam. S came in one day when they were doing pictures with a huge cold sore on his lip. For the entire day, Y was making fun of him because of it. The next day, Y came in with the same size cold sore on the same spot on his lip. E told Y, "That's ____ _______ you for making fun of S!" and bam, there was a great name. They knew it was also the name of a Z song, but the name was too good to pass up.
Id X alone.
7. 7. 6.
X initially began playing in blue and white, similar to Y, but soon changed to their traditional __________ by 1911. Many believe the change was influenced because ________ tops were the cheapest stripes to make, because the same combination was used to make bed mattresses, and the unused cloth was easily converted into football shirts.
The kit has been made by Nike and one of the clubs previous sponsor Z, who would change the shirt sponsor's logo, and occasionally the shirt itself, incorporating the movie name as a promotional stunt for their movies Bewitched, XXX, Spiderman-2 ,Hitch Big fish, Apocalypse .
Because shirts would have to be introduced and removed from shops at a very fast pace to keep up with film releases, Nike decided to not include a sponsor's logo on replica shirts made from 2002 onwards.
13. 13. 11.
Z is a webcomic written and drawn by Japanese-American comic strip artist Tatsuya Ishida.
Slick, an inept womanizer and self-proclaimed pimp, is the strip's main character. Slick's appearance is based on X from Y; (which was parodied in one strip where Slick and Monique dress up like Y while proclaiming originality). Slick is aged "between 14 and 21,"but he is often seen consuming alcohol and looking at pornography, suggesting that, while he somewhat resembles a child, he is in fact a young adult.
In the first strips, he applies to the Devil to sell his soul, and his application remained pending for years. His continued moral struggle with lust gets him repeatedly thrown into hell, but he always manages to escape in various ways, often with the help of other characters.
It is also shown that slick has a laptop called "the slickbook" which has suddenly taken on an independent personality and has become like a pet to Slick. Prior to this, the laptop was shown as a simple inanimate object.
Z has been rejected by newspaper comic syndicates eleven times as of January 25,2006 for the prime reason that it defames the comic Y.
17. 17. 15.
In 1975, X wrote a letter to The New York Times claiming that only 30% of the events depicted in the movie Y were accurate. X's main objection was the inaccurate portrayal of his wife as a plain, overweight woman whose behavior led to his relationship with another person, Elizabeth Eden (a pre-operative transsexual), although in reality, he'd met Eden two years after he left his wife. Other concerns he had that were fictionalized in the movie were that he never spoke to his mother and that the police refused to let him speak to his wife. He did however praise _________ and _________'s characterizations of himself and Elizabeth Eden as accurate. In a 2006 interview, the screenwriter of the movie said that he tried to visit X in prison many times to get more details about his story when he wrote the screenplay but X refused each time to see him because he thought he was not paid enough money for the rights to his story. Also, ____, who was actually 18 years old is played in Y by a 39-year-old.
X was also the subject of two documentaries, The Third Memory in 2000 and Based on A True Story in 2005. In 2001, The New York Times reported that he was living on welfare in Brooklyn.
GimmeY
18. 18. 16.
X became a Boy Scout, and fulfilled a requirement for the photography merit badge by making a nine-minute 8 mm film entitled "The Last Gunfight". X recalled years later to a magazine interviewer, "My dad's still-camera was broken, so I asked the scoutmaster if I could tell a story with my father's movie camera. He said yes, and I got an idea to do a Western. I made it and got my merit badge. That was how it all started." At age 13, X won a prize for a 40-minute war film he titled "Escape to Nowhere" which was based on a battle in east Africa. At age 16, X wrote and directed his first independent film, a 140-minute science fiction adventure called Firelight. The film, which had a budget of US$500, was shown in his local cinema theatre and generated a profit of $1. He also made several WWII films inspired by his father's war stories.
