ICT role in 21st century education and its challenges
How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

2. Computer
A computer was used for all of the other digital needs
throughout the coursework. I have grown up with a computer
so I know how to use them and how to work them, so I didn’t
have any troubles when using it. As out coursework is
presented on an online blog we needed the computers to
have access to this.
We used the Apple Mac to create our trailer and although I have used
other Apple products such as the iPods and iPhones, I was very
unfamiliar with this and struggled tremendously towards the
beginning, however nearer the end I became used to its ways and
found it easier to get along with.

3. Premier Pro is a piece of editing software by
Adobe, used to create things such as trailers and
videos. It allows you to create a timeline of video, text
or images and present them in a movie type format.
We used this for the creation of our trailer and
although it took a little time to understand, it made
the making of this easier and was simple enough to be
able to use and figure out.
Premier Pro After effect is also editing softwareby Adobe, but this is
primarily used for creating text, we specifically used this for
this reason, to create our inter-titles. It has a wide variety of
fonts to choose from and also has pre-uploaded templates for
animation and such things. It allows you to make a short clip of
your text that can be easily imported into Premier Pro.

4. PhotoShop
Another Adobe product used was Photoshop; this wasn’t
used for the trailer part of our project, but for the
creation of the ancillary texts such as the poster and
magazine cover. As editing software this was the ideal
program that was simple to use in order to create the two
products.
Dafont is an online website that is uploaded with
thousands of fonts for you to download and use
almost immediately. This was great for when we
wanted a more typical horror type font when
creating both ancillary texts.

5. The Panasonic camera is the device that was used in order to record and film
the footage for our trailer. It is a recording device and is primarily used for
that purpose. Along with this is a tripod that attaches to the base of the
camera. It was used to capture some of the shots as it keeps the camera still
and in the same position whilst filming is taking place. Studio lights are an
artificial light source that are sometimes used to create effect of lighten a
scene. This was used in one of the scenes that we shot and was easy and
filled the purpose that it was needed for.

An SD card is a storage device that goes into the
camera to save your filmed footage on. This was used
to save our footage and then transfer it onto the
computer so that we could retrieve the videos that
we shot to use and edit to create our trailer.

6. YouTube is a website that is uploaded with millions of
videos from all over. It allows you to stream the video from
wherever you are and watch the content that you want.
This was used in the research stages of the production of
our trailer to research existing trailers that would give us
ideas and inspiration into what we wanted out trailer to be
like. It was very useful and a helpful resource as it has
anything and everything that we needed.

e This is another website that was used in the research for
our own trailer. Survey Monkey is an online survey
maker, it allows you to create and design your own
survey that you can then send out to people to collect
answers and feedback. When you have all the responses
you need it shows you the results and you can see them
in graph form. This was very helpful and the layout made
it easy to understand and interpret. It was ideal for when
research was carried out.

7. Word is another part of the Microsoft package and is a
document publishing piece of software. This is very simple to use
and was used for the making of our trailer and also for some of
my coursework. For the use in our trailer it was used to fill in
forms such as the risk assessment form and also for the letter
that we need to show in our video. As I have used this for many
years I am very comfortable using it and got along with ease. I
didn’t come across any problems as it is a simple and familiar
piece of software.
Excel is another part of the Microsoft office package
and is a spread sheet application. It allowed us to take
the data from our surveys and put it onto a spread
sheet to create graphs. This also allowed us to choose a
graph type that best suited and showed that question.
This is just as Microsoft word as I have used this for
many years and am again very familiar with its
workings and got on with it well.

8. When on the computers chrome was used to access the internet for all
things that it was needed for and because the Apple Mac’s aren’t installed
with chrome we had to use safari instead. These were both simple to use as
they have the same basic buttons and navigation system. Once on the
internet the popular search engine of Google was used to aid and help find
what we were looking for.

9. Blogger is a website online that allows you to create your
own page and put online for everyone to see. I had used this
as the forum of my AS coursework so was familiar with it by
this year and got on with it well. By creating my own personal
blog for my coursework it made me a web 2.0 creator. Web
2.0 now allows us to make, distribute, research and promote
our own products with no or very little budget.

10. Many websites were used when it came to the presentation and medium that we wanted to use when it came to
putting the work that I had onto my blog. Flickr is a site that you upload an image to and it allows you to add
annotations to it that will appear when you hover over that part of the image. This was simple to use as it was quick to
learn and I used it last year so was already familiar. Second is Slideshare, this is an online site for if you have created a
slideshow. You upload your slideshow and it formats it so that you can transfer it straight over to your blog without
compromising on the appearance. This was ideal for my blog as I still wanted it to look presentable and again it was
simple to navigate. Flipsnack is another site very similar to Slideshare but it allows you to upload and order individual
pages and then personalise it to give it the look that suits you. I found this simple to use and only faced very minor
problems. Lastly is Prezi. I really liked using Prezi as it lets you create different and animated poster like designs. You
can add text, images and videos which I found really helpful for parts of my coursework. It was a little more difficult to
get along with that the other three, but that was mainly due to the complexity of it and the many more features that
are available to you, but once you had been at it for a while you get to terms with it and it becomes a lot easier.
