2. Instruction:
Anticipatory Set / Make Connection (learner’s strengths & interests) / Modeling / Direct instruction and
Guided practice
Intro: I will explain that today we will learn how to fill out a bank deposit slip. I will say that each day
we will practice doing this task during our deposit practice.
Ant Set: I will ask; “who likes money”? When the class answers, I will ask where we can keep our
money safe. When they answer, “a bank”, positive verbal reinforcement will be given and a follow up
question will be asked; “how do we get our money in the bank”? I will tell them that they do this with a
deposit slip, and every time they want to put money in the bank, they need to fill out a deposit slip.
Lesson: I will be modeling how to properly fill out a deposit slip on the overhead projector, step by
step, box by box. I will first ask; “What does this box say”? The student responds, then I model what
to fill in the box. Steps include:
1. Cross out the “Identification” box
2. Fill in deposit date (todays date) CFU:: Do we write yesterday’s date, or today’s date?
3. Fill in account number. CFU:: “Where can you find your account number”? Answer:: “Checking
account cover sheet”
4. Print your name. CFU:: Do you write your name in cursive, or print? A:: print
5. Draw a line through the “Branch of your account” box.
6. Draw a line through the “Sign here for cash back” box. CFU:: Are we taking out any money?
A:: No, only depositing money
7. Model filling in the “Cash” box with the amount the student is depositing. Dollars in left column,
cents in the right column.
8. Draw a line through the “Checks” boxes (4 altogether). CFU:: “Are we depositing any checks,
or just cash”? A:: Cash only.
9. Model filling in the Sub-Total box with the same dollar amount as the Cash box.
10. Draw a line through the Less Cash box.
11. Draw a line through the Less-Payment box
12. Draw a line through the Less Savings box
13. Fill in the Total Deposit box with the same deposit amount as the Cash and Sub-total boxes.
Direct Instruction:: I will direct students to cross out the boxes they will not need, one at a time. I will
then direct them to fill in the date, name, Acct. #, cash, sub-total, and total deposit boxes. CFU:: Do
we write our signature in the “print name” box?
Independent practice:: Students will fill out their own deposit slip based on the model we created
together.
Closure (Student voice):
What is this slip of paper called? A::Deposit slip When do we fill these out in class? A::Each day with
deposit. When do we fill these out in the “real world”? A:: Whenever we make a bank deposit. I will go
