Roro Jongrang was a daughter of Ratu Boko, whose palace was situated on Ratu Boko Hill, southem of
Prambanan.
When a demonic warrior prince by the name of Bandung Bondowoso asked for her hand im marriage , Roro
Jongrang agreed , on condition that he built for her a vast temple in single night. Underred by the request,
Bandung Bondowoso took up the seemingly impossible challenge and, when evening came set work. As a result
pf his extraordinary magical power , the temple began to take shape rapidly and 3 o’clock in the morning it was
almost finished. Seeing that her condition were going to be net , and that she would be forced to marry this
unwelcome suitor, Roro Jongrang immadiately ordered the villager to begin pounding rice, wich was cotumary
sign that new day hand begun.
After that moment ,Bandung Bondwoso had only one more statue to complete. In his anger at having been
tricked in the way he cursed the princss and turne her into the image of Durga which now stand in the northen
chamber of the main temple at Prambanan.
