3. HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE OF
CAREER PLANNING
The ide of career can be traced back
in the beginning in 20th century. It’s
etymology comes from the French
word “carrier” which means a road or
a race course, which in turn comes
from the Latin word “car aria” which
refers to track for wheeled vehicles.

Career- Time devoted for working out of a
purposeful life pattern through the work
undertaken by an individual.
Work- The activity that produces something of
value for oneself or others. It is not limited to
activities for which we are paid.
Vocation- The work that an individual does
become of calling.
Profession- A career that requires specialized
training and academic preparation.
Occupation-A group of similar positions found in
different industries or organization.
Job- A paid position held by one or more
individuals requiring some related attributes in a
specific organization.
11. WHAT IS CAREER PLANNING?
Working as a teacher has many challenges in
order to address the needs of our students.
The first that teachers must accept is that
there is always room for improvement. In
order to improve ourselves, we have to
carefully plan our career. Planning a career
can be defined as choosing life’s important
paths. It is a lifelong process, which includes
choosing an occupation, getting a job, growing
in our job, possibly changing careers, and
eventually retiring.
