2. We went to Poland to explore our heritage.
I never imagined I’d be able to
bring a piece of it back.
- HARRY PELZ, 2013

3. Dear World Traveler,
We’ve always been committed to going the extra mile on behalf of our
guests. For Harry Pelz, we were able to connect him with a gentleman in
Poland who had known his father well. Harry not only was able to hear
stories about his father and see where he lived, he also received a letter
that his dad had written many years ago.
Creating special moments and treasured memories is at the heart of every
Travcoa journey. Travcoa’s Travel Directors and expert local guides have the
knowledge and connections that ensure our guests experience the best
each destination has to offer—from dining at spectacular yet little-known
restaurants, to gaining privileged access to museums and palaces, to truly
connecting and interacting with people around the world.
We promise that no matter where you choose to travel with us, you
will return with precious gifts—new friends, new memories, and a new
perspective on life.
Wishing you extraordinary encounters,
Jerre Fuqua

WHAT MAKES TRAVCOA SPECIAL
Life-Changing Journeys of Discovery
Enjoy incredible vistas from The Elephant Camp in Botswana
Maybe you will be awe-struck by the incredible power—and danger—of an active volcano. Perhaps you will be touched by the smiles
and laughter of schoolchildren in Malaysia or be moved by performances of ancient songs in Botswana. Regardless of where you travel,
we guarantee there will be moments that will make a lasting impression. It is these moments that bind us to one another while also
reawakening our thirst for adventure and new discoveries.
Entrée into the Exceptional
From our groundbreaking journey to Nepal in 1956—when the first
American tour group stayed in a palace in the absence of hotels in
Nepal—Travcoa has delivered peerless entrée into the exceptional.
Only a company with over 60 years of experience and deep local
connections can command unsurpassed access to magnificent
museums, monuments, and ancient tombs, and open the doors of
palaces, private residences, lodges, and desert camps. And all of
this is enriched by the insights and access provided by local expert
guides who call these destinations home. We believe that what
happens on these excursions is the secret to transforming a fabulous
journey into an life-changing experience. Ride the Glacier Express over the "roof of Europe" in Switzerland

Profoundly Meaningful Experience
For more than six decades, Travcoa has perfected the art of creating
travel experiences that deliver our guests in the utmost comfort and
style to the world’s most exceptional places. Our abiding commitment
extends far beyond this, as Travcoa molds each journey into a profoundly
meaningful chapter in your own life story, providing you with inspirational
experiences and moments of quiet awe that will stay with you forever.
Sensational Excursions
When each of the senses—along with the mind and the imagination—
are engaged, an experience becomes literally sensational and utterly
unforgettable. On one journey, savor the taste of coffee brewed from
beans grown, harvested, and roasted by farmers whom you meet.
Delight in the flavor of their brew, and gain a deeper appreciation
of their craft. Another journey transports you by camel across the
sands of the Gobi Desert, where you dine in the traditional Bedouin
manner—using just three fingers of your right hand. The spices both
imbue the food with flavor and relay the history of the Spice Route,
immersing you deeper into the journey.
Superior Service and Amenities
Whether you choose one of our all-inclusive small-group luxury tours,
private guided luxury travel, or custom journeys individually-designed
to your specifications, you will find that your itinerary has been
meticulously designed to deliver an overall experience comprised
of impeccable service and world-class amenities.

“As time passes, when I think of this holiday, I suspect I will
remember with great fondness the Dalmatian Coast. What a
pleasure to enjoy spectacular scenery in a lovely coach with such
wonderful companions—and all of this offset by the dazzling
Adriatic Sea. It was amazing to see village after village of
immaculate white stone houses topped with red tiles, all enhanced
by beautiful surrounding gardens. The whole experience was
incredibly peaceful, and an excellent memory for us all."

inevitable worst, but more importantly the very best, of India, thanks
in large part to our amazing Travel Director, John Wootton. He worked

Over 200 Years of Combined Experience
TammyVu
Product Manager
Tammy has served Travcoa guests for 25 years
with her deep appreciation for other cultures
and ways of life. Her father, a diplomat, was
posted in Singapore, Morocco, and Italy, and
as a result she was privileged to see much of
the world as a teenager. Her favorite cities are Paris, Buenos Aires, and
Cape Town and she speaks Vietnamese, Spanish and Italian.
Pennie Laird
Custom Journey Planner
Pennie’s first experience with travel was at
10 months old when she rode in a Piper Cub
that her dad was piloting. Then, in college,
she took four months to explore Europe. All
told she has spent more than 40 years in luxury
travel—20 with Travcoa—and has visited more than 85 countries and
all seven continents. Her specialty is exotic destinations.
MonikaWeinsoft
Custom Journey Planner
Monika’s first travel experiences were the
road trips she took with her family as a child.
After exploring her own backyard, she now
enjoys traveling the world. Her favorite
destination? Southeast Asia. Her personal
travel motto is to try anything at least once regardless of any fears,
preconceived notions, or beliefs because, as she says, “You may never
have the chance to have that same life-changing experience again.”
Yvette Glas
Journey Consultant
Yvette’s first travel experiences were in
Germany, Switzerland, and Austria, and it
was there that she developed her passion
for travel. She’s been with Travcoa as an
Escorted Journey Consultant for 20 years.
Her hobbies include gardening and enjoying time with her English
Golden Retriever puppy, and her favorite travel destinations are
India and Papua New Guinea.
KimberlyWaddell
Product Manager
Kimberly has worked more than 30 years
in travel, and 24 of them have been with
Travcoa. She was bitten by the travel bug
years ago while traveling in Europe with her
grandmother, and her goal remains to give
Travcoa guests the very best possible journey, with memories that
will last a lifetime.
Susan Fulton
Journey Consultant
Susan is fearless when it comes to travel.
Whether domestic or foreign, she trusts
herself to navigate her way through the world
by asking questions and making new friends
along the way. She has been in the travel
industry for 12 years, and her favorite destinations are New Zealand
and Africa, though she also feels quite at home in the UK. “My heritage
is Scottish, and when I visit, I feel an utter sense of belonging.”
Shante Daniel
Product Manager
Shante has been with Travcoa for six years,
gaining knowledge of the world while working
on products for several regions, including
Europe, the Americas, Africa, and the Middle
East. As the child of a military family, travel
started early for her in the U.S., and in recent years she has ventured
out of the country to tour Cuba. She is also thrilled to have a journey to
Perú fast-approaching.
Pamela Lane
Custom Journey Planner
Pamela has served the travel community for
more than 25 years. She says when you
discover a new place, you discover a new
part of yourself. Her favorite destinations
include Europe and, as she recently discovered,
Africa. When she’s not traveling or working, she enjoys pursuing
fitness and wellness.
Traci Eberle
Operations Manager
Traci has served Travcoa for over 30 years.
Her passion for travel started as a teenager,
when she lived in Japan for three years
while her father was stationed there with
the Marine Corps. When it comes to traveling,
she says, "More is better!" Yemen is the most unusual place she's
ever visited.
Joshua Smith
Product Manager
Joshua says that one life lesson he’s learned
during his seven years in the travel industry is
the value of personal interaction. Whether he’s
making pizza at a home in Italy, heli-hiking with
a botanist on a glacier, or playing dominoes
with students in Egypt, it is the small personal touches that provide
the best travel experiences. His favorite destination is Myanmar.

a Bedouin camp. Rely on your Travel Director to share special expertise, too, which may range from fluency in languages to knowledge
about flora and fauna, photography, and local wines.
Beyond all this, your Travel Director is keenly aware that the most memorable journeys include surprises, serendipity, and spontaneity—
and is uniquely empowered to capture every opportunity to enrich your travel experience.

A journey to India is always an enlightening experience. This is not only because the fabulously varied subcontinent is so
huge. It’s because it is an enormously life-enhancing adventure to explore a world that is so populous, vibrantly colorful, and imbued with
profound spiritual and cultural traditions. This journey not only transports you via plane, motor coach, boat, and safari vehicle, but on the
backs of elephants deep into the heart of Mother India.
DAYS 1 & 2 Delhi,India
Upon arrival in the early hours of Day 1 you
are transferred to your luxury hotel. Your
room has been reserved for early check-in so
that you may rest after your flight and enjoy
the morning at leisure.
Delhi is India’s vibrant capital with a history
going back more than 3,000 years. Capital to
seven different cultures over the course of its
history, Delhi is a fascinating fusion of them all.
The city is home to everything from minarets
and Mughal tombs to impressive British
colonial architecture. In the older walled city
known as Old Delhi there are historic and
religiously significant sites, and countless
traditional neighborhoods, markets, and
bazaars. In sections both old and new, this
populous city pulses with life.
We begin sightseeing in the afternoon with
a visit to the 16th-century Humayun’s Tomb,
which is considered to be the first Mughal
garden tomb. Then we drive past numerous
stately British colonial buildings planned by
architect Edwin Lutyen.
We revel in a marvelous mix of colors, scents,
flavors, and sounds at a traditional market
where merchants sell everything from intricate
woodcarvings to camel-hide footwear,
gems, brassware, and colorful fabric. We
visit Delhi’s oldest monument, Qutab Minar,
a 234-foot sandstone tower. Built in 1190 to
commemorate Islam’s arrival in India, it is
surrounded by lovely gardens.

DAY 1 Mumbai,India
Upon arrival you will be escorted to
your luxury hotel. Your ocean-view room
overlooking the Arabian Sea has been
reserved for early check-in so that you may
rest after your flight. Known as “the Gateway
of India,” Mumbai is the second largest city
in the world, and the commercial capital
of the country. The city’s original name,
“Bombay,” emerged from the Portuguese
term bom bahai meaning good bay or
harbor.
The Gateway of India, Mumbai’s principle
landmark, was erected on the waterfront
in 1924 to commemorate King George V’s
visit to Mumbai in 1911. Next, we drive
along picturesque Marine Drive, fondly
known as the “Queen’s Necklace.” We stop
at the dhobi ghat (public laundry) and we
view Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, known
as Victoria Railway Station, a 19th-century
building known for its architectural mix of
Victorian Gothic Revival and traditional Indian
features.
We continue past the Parsi Towers of Silence,
the Jain Temple and the Haji Ali Mosque, a
shrine in honor of a Muslim wali (saint), set on
an island linked to the mainland by a narrow
causeway. At the Prince of Wales Museum,
we learn about the rich and diverse lineage
of India, and conclude the day with a visit to

DAYS 14 & 15 Kandy
The cultural capital of Sri Lanka is Kandy.
A land of temples and stunning natural
delights, Kandy holds the famous “Temple
of Tooth” the country’s most sacred shrine,
where a tooth of Buddha is kept. The hill-
country capital is located on a plain amongst
towering hills and is surrounded by Sri
Lanka’s largest river, the Mahaweli. The town’s
perfect climate, scenic location and rich
history make it a favorite destination.
Our drive to Kandy takes us first to Matale
to visit a spice garden where we can breathe
in the aroma of cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg,
cardamom, pepper and perhaps make a
purchase. Later, we arrive in Aluvihare to
feast our eyes on this sacred Buddhist temple
where the Buddha Dhamma (a Buddhist
Bible) was passed on verbally after the
Buddha’s death.
Our day in Kandy is filled with amazing
sights and experiences from the Hill Station
Royal Botanical Gardens to the University of

DAYS 9 & 10 Shakhrisabz & Bukhara
Our first stop today is the UNESCO World
Heritage Site of Shakhrisabz, home of Tamer-
lane. Learn about the history of this famous
ruler at the historic center. Upon arrival in
Bukhara, spend the rest of the day at leisure.
The subdued desert hues and centuries-old
buildings of Bukhara exude an exotic air
of ancient culture. It is the most complete
example of a medieval city in Central Asia,
with an urban fabric that has remained largely
intact. The city itself is full of colorful bazaars
selling souvenirs and handicrafts. Bukhara is
one of the most ancient cities in Uzbekistan
and a UNESCO World Heritage Site because
of its significance as a large commercial center
on the Silk Road. The city is also considered
to be one of the most important centers of
learning and is thus renowned throughout
the Islamic world.
On Day 10 we visit some of the world’s finest
examples of Islamic architecture, starting
with Lyab-i-Khauz Plaza, built in the 16th and
17th centuries and flanked by the Nadirkhon
Divanbegi Madrassah and Khanako. The
Poi-Kalyan Complex of mosques and
madrassahs surrounds the Kalyan Minaret.
The minaret was erected in 1127 and is
considered the symbol of the city. Explore
the Ulugbek Ark Fortress, the residence-cum-
army headquarters of the Bukharan emirs
(rulers). Of special note is the Mausoleum of
Ismail Samanid, a masterpiece of 10th-century
Muslim architecture featuring incredible Persian
brickwork. This evening, enjoy a folkloric show
at Nadirkhon Devanbegi Madrassah.

DAYS 12 & 13 Nukus & Khiva
This morning, fly to Nukus, which grew from a
small settlement in 1932 into a large, modern
Soviet city with broad avenues and big public
buildings by the 1950s. Our first stop is the
Nukus Art Museum, famous for its unique
collection of Russian avant-garde paintings,
rescued from the Stalin-era purges. Next,
we visit Khiva, a UNESCO World Heritage
Site said to have been founded by the son
of Noah. For hundreds of years this fortress
town was a stop on the Silk Road, and was
later a well-known slave-trading center. It
became part of Russia in the 1800s until Soviet
rule subsided. The remainder of the day is

Dam, the largest public works project in
China since the Great Wall, before we board
our flight to Shanghai.

DAYS 12 & 13 Guilin
Guilin, with its limestone karsts shaped (and
named) like mythical creatures, has often been
hailed as the most beautiful place in China,
and for good reason. Along with fanciful
karsts, the area undulates with rolling hills,
caves decorated with lavish stalactites and
stalagmites, and traditional milieu of farmers
working rice paddies. On Day 13 we cruise
along the Li River and go ashore on the west
bank to explore the wonders of Elephant
Trunk Hill, its pachyderm profile resembling an
elephant drinking with its trunk from the river.

DAYS 14 & 15 Guilin & Lijiang
This morning get a sense of the Ming Dynasty
(1368-1644) as you walk the blue flagstone
street lining the river through Daxu Ancient
Town. Notice the old wooden residences,
shops, and stalls adorned with colorfully
decorated eaves, with carved doors and
window frames looking much as they did
back in the days of the last emperors. Later
in the day, fly to Lijiang to reveal more of this
amazing country’s secrets. Built alongside the
delta of the Jade River more than 2,000 years
ago, Lijiang is dramatically set among green
fields backed by the 13 snow-covered peaks
of the Jade Dragon Snow massif. Weather
permitting, ride a chair lift to the top of one
of these peaks, Yak Meadow, for outstanding
views. Head down to the old Baisha Village
below to find fresco-covered temples, and to
Yufeng Monastery. In the Naxi village of Yuhu,
step inside a traditional “monkey head” house,
now a museum, to learn about Naxi language
and culture. Explore the twisted lanes of Old
Town Lijiang, a UNESCO World Heritage Site,
whose homes are an amalgamation of styles
from various regional tribes. View yet more
historical buildings and temples brought from
all over the region in Jade Spring Park.

We travel to cosmopolitan Hong Kong on
Day 18. This modern city of 14 million weaves
an intricate web of old and new. Quiet parks
host elderly citizens performing their daily
tai chi, and families living on sampans still
sell fruit and fish to ships in the harbor, while
overhead in skyscrapers, stockbrokers weigh
in on the latest international developments.
Aberdeen Harbor is a hive of activity from Star
Line ferries and commercial barges to junks
with battened sails cupped like clamshells to
catch the wind. On Day 19, enjoy the most
strategic view of it all as we take a funicular to
the top of Victoria Peak. Then it’s back down
to sea level to board a sampan to witness
life on Aberdeen Harbor, and later, explore
Stanley Market. On your last night, toast your
legendary journey to China with a cocktail
and dinner party with your fellow guests and

Soldiers at the Naadam Festival in Ulaanbaatar
To most westerners “outer” Mongolia connotes “the ends of the earth.” It stirs up visions of camels plodding through
the endless sands of the Gobi Desert, and the warlord Genghis Khan galloping across the steppes with his hordes. Brutal as he may have been,
the great Khan succeeded in uniting warring clans and stamping out feuds, and went on to create the largest contiguous empire the world has
ever known. Flash forward to today’s Mongolia where change is a gentler process. There has been a transition to a parliamentary democracy,
the country has opened up to the world, and the economy is booming.

Upon arrival you are escorted to your luxury

cocktail party and dinner.
Northwest of Beijing we come upon the
tombs of thirteen ancient emperors via the
Avenue of the Animals—amazing sculptures
of lions, horses, elephants, and camels!
Our visit to a mausoleum and tour of the
museum brings the Ming Dynasty to life.
Next, we travel to Badaling to stand atop
the Great Wall and observe its route as it
snakes across the landscape. Known to the
Chinese as the “Long Wall of Ten Thousand
Li”, we could never walk the entire length
of this 12,000-mile-long UNESCO World
Heritage Site, but we can marvel at its
wonder.
