Strategy Definition How could this be applied in my lessons?

Before you even start the lesson,
think about questions that will
challenge students or specific
students based on prior learning
(write them down if needed)
If this is the

to create questions to match.
They could then be
ranked/grouped in terms of

  • 1. Personalised Questioning Strategy Definition How could this be applied in my lessons? Key questions Before you even start the lesson, think about questions that will challenge students or specific students based on prior learning (write them down if needed) If this is the answer... Reveal just an answer (or series of answers) and allow students to create questions to match. They could then be ranked/grouped in terms of challenge, interest etc Socratic questionin g During any kind of paired work, encourage students to work towards clarifying their thinking e.g. “Why do you say that?” Hinge questions Plan to use a hinge question to check progress. Could be a closed question that is followed up with a “why?” (mini white boards/numbered heads together would work well here) Question Continuum On any given topic, groups generate as many quality questions as they can. These could then be plotted on an x and y axis (either in books, on tables or on display boards) x = interest level and y = difficulty Just one more question Give sentence stems to students to generate their own follow up questions: “Suppose we knew...What would change if...What happens when...? To encourage deeper thinking. Thunks Questions to initiate deeper thinking e.g. If this character where an object in a kitchen, what would she be? Can you ever walk on the same beach twice?
