2. LIGHT
Light travels in straight lines. We see things when light bounces off
an object and enters our eyes. The main source of light on earth is
the sun. Sunlight provides the energy that green plants use to create
sugars, which release energy into the living things that digest them.
3. REFRACTION
• Refraction is known as the bending of light. When light goes
through one medium through another, the object looks bended.
Example: When we put a pencil in a glass of water it looks bended.
That is known as refration.
4. REFLECTION
• Reflection is the process of when light bounces of a shiny, smooth
object and we see our reflection.
• TRICK QUESTION: Sally could see her reflection on aluminum foil.
She crushes it, and opens it again. Will she still be able to see her
reflection?
5. HOW DO WE SEE COLOURS?
• We see colours when all the colours from a light source hits an
object and only ONE colour is reflected back. Example: when light
hits an apple and one colour (red) is reflected back.
• We see the colour white when light hits an object and ALL colours
are reflected back. We see the colour black when light hits an
object and all colours are absorbed and NO colour is reflected
back. That is why black and white are not actually colours.
6. SHADOWS
• We see shadows when an opaque object blocks the path of light.
• OPAQUE: An object that does not let light pass at all.
• TRANSLUCENT: An object that lets little light pass.
• TRANSPARENT: An object that lets all light pass through.
