WHAT WE DID
For our main product (teaser trailer) to be effective as a
marketing tool we had to make sure our ancillary texts
(poster & magazine) both integrated elements from our main
product. This does not necessarily mean that we had to
have shots from the teaser in them, but that we had to have
a recognizable theme running through all the products.
What we did to do this was that we included elements from
the themes of the teaser such as surgical tools, blood and
the scrubs that the doctor wears in the teaser.
POSTER
In the poster we included elements of the hospital
that the main parts of the teaser trailer were filmed
in. What this does is it gives the whole marketing
campaign a medical/surgical theme. This means
that because the poster is put up in a lot of places
and will be seen by a lot of people, that the
elements of the poster will automatically remind
them of the film.
MAGAZINE
The theme of the ‘Little White Lies’
magazine covers is that they are simple
and that they have an illustrated style to
them.
The fact that they are simple means that
we had to highlight the scrubs that the
character is wearing as the main element
because the simplistic design style meant
we had little room for maneuver in terms
of what elements of the medical/surgical
theme we could incorporate into the
magazine.
COMBINATION
I briefly touched on the combination of the elements in the other
slides because I think it was quite effective. I think it was effective
because we integrated all the elements of the teaser into the poster
and magazine quite well.
We could have improved the continuity and fluidity of the
marketing campaign by subtly integrating elements of the teaser
into the poster and magazine. For example, we could have included
the same props that we used in the filming in the poster and
magazines. Overall however I think we did a good job of combing
the texts and using the ancillary texts to support the purpose of
our main product.
