Controversial Themes
Controversial issues play an important role in today's society due to increasing social and cultural
diversity, as a direct result of this diversity there is a vast array of controversial issues that may be
encountered within the modern school setting (Woolley, 2010; Mulet, 2014). It would be unfeasible
to explore all of the controversial issues encountered inside schools within this essay, therefore, the
focus of this assignment will be exploring the debates centring on death and violence. The decision
to focus on these areas is as a direct response to scenarios I have encountered within school settings
which have highlighted the importance of addressing these interconnected controversial themes.
Whilst there are many quality non–fiction texts available that centre on these issues, the emphasis of
this assignment will be on children's fiction.
A controversial issue can be defined as a subject that causes debate and dispute...show more content...
Fiction allows us to experience events vicariously (Appendix 2.3 – teacher's viewpoint), enabling us
to gain a greater depth of understanding regarding a topic, a different perspective and engender
empathy for the circumstances of our peers (Emery, 1996; Wise, no date; Mulet, 2014; Rowling,
2010; Barnett, 2014; Tomasino, Zarnowski, and Backner, 2003; Lysaker, Tonge, 2013; Medwell,
Wray, and Moore, 2014). Vygotsky's theories of cognitive development support this perspective,
stating that children develop as a direct result of encountering new experiences and from using the
new information to construct or reconstruct existing knowledge (Johnson, 2003). Arguably,
therefore, there is a link between the process of social and cultural interaction in conjunction with
life experiences and the impact upon the linguistic, cognitive, social, and emotional development of
children (Johnson,

Controversial Advertising Essay examples
Introduction
Advertising texts and images seem to be the most visible and ubiquitous icons of consumer society.
The Advertising industry indeed has simultaneously become one of the most powerful and
apparently most uncritical institutions of today as well as this, people seemingly have accepted
billboard advertising as an usual part of their environment. Nevertheless there sometimes develop
certain advertising campaigns undergoing general ideas about what ads are supposed to show and
they hence provoke controversial public debates. So called controversial advertising has often been
claimed to somehow subvert conventional advertising's practice by the audiences, justice, advertisers
, companies, advertising industry's self regulating...show more content...
(Compare Vogel 1997) Subversion in that case characterises an aesthetic act of infiltration, that
indeed redefines certain subsystem–conventions, but that nor threatens the subsystem's existence
neither really concerns the entire order of society.
In order to answer the question, how far advertising can be subversive, I therefore suggest to
differentiate two notions of subversion. Referring to Vogel, I assume subversion as a mainly
aesthetic presumption on its low–level. Considering the notion's political connotation, even on this
stage the aesthetic redevelopment at least has in any way to be able to reflect the own subsystem.
Otherwise it only can be regarded as system's extension. As high–grade subversion I suggest to
assume the recruitment of a subsystem in order to entirely destroy it. In its most extensive
perspective that second meaning includes revolutionary subversion as the intentional destruction of
the entire society.
Since nobody would seriously claim the advertising–industry's contemporary intention was to
destroy capitalist society, the second definition of subversion can be neglected, in order to
investigate, how far controversial advertising campaigns contain subversive potentials. It is hence
necessary to analyse if and how controversial advertising manage to reflect the subsystem of
advertising by challenging its rules and aesthetic conceptions.

Controversial Art
Art is the expression of human creative skills and imagination characteristically in a visual form
such as painting, drawing, photographs or sculpture producing works of arts to be valued primarily
for its beauty or emotional influence. Conceptual artists have become less interested in making
beautiful artworks that value the aesthetic, preferring instead to use the process of art to explore
ideas and challenge beliefs, whether artistic or political. Over time, this has distorted the definition of
what art is considered to be as it constantly being changed and simplified. The continual redefinition
of art has been perpetuated by artists who continually challenge what is socially and culturally
acceptable as in order to test and widen existing boundaries. As arguments continue to arise over
whether art that pushes boundaries is acceptable, many artists have been heavily criticized for their
explicit and frequently confrontational portrayal of...show more content...
This empowerment given to artists often inspires other artists and members of society to express
their values and beliefs through imagery. This in turn gives them the ability to draw from the
reflection of the society in which we live and gives them the artistic freedom to capture the reality
that merely creating artworks about their own personal beliefs and opinions. Despite the countless
number of controversial figure inhabiting the art world of the 20th century, society as a whole
should allow artists to challenge the standard and to be edgy, as over time, viewers will be able to
appreciate their artworks. Many artists from past and present continue to challenge these
conventions, with Anders Serrano and Salvador Dali being two of those who do. Many can argue
their aesthetic qualities, but each work fulfills the criteria of a work of art and more importantly
reflects on societal values and

Controversial Interests
Researching on a topic of interest can help individuals be able to learn something new and to be
able to see a side of a topic that has not been seen before. As I am an individual who is looking
forward to owing my own business one day. There comes to be many topics that interest me.
However, currently there is a topic that interests me that I feel will impact my personal, academic,
and working life, which is whether companies should market towards children or not? Hence, I find
the topic of whether companies should market towards children or not to be very interesting and
controversial. Companies will market towards children to make money in the long run. For
example, from my personal experience I will get an occasional nostalgic craving

Controversial Issues
Morailty: Acepted or Opressed
Iosif Todoran– February 21,2017 – Soc 130
ABSTRACT
How do countries feel abut controversial topics such as: Homosexuality, Abortion, Premarital Sex
and Divorce.
Controversial issues have plagued mankind since the very beginning and that is due the ideology
that without controversy you cant flourish as a race, country or simply a group of people. However,
the controversial issues we face today different from continent to continent and country to country
due to the culture, norms and moral values each person is exposed too. There are four issues in
particular that rise up again and again and they are: Homosexuality, Abortion, Premarital Sex and
Divorce. The four countries in question differ from one...show more content...
The New York Times reported a staggering 23% of adults are not affiliated to any religion. The rest
of the population is a mixture of religions such as: Christian, Catholics, Islam, and others. This
change in religious affiliations isn't affecting just the individuals who now partake in a non–religion
category but also the political parties. The Republican Party relies on the votes of those who
affiliate with the Christian faith and if those votes change due to a change in religious affiliation
then we could also see a decline in the number of morality for these issues (Cohen). For now, the
numbers seem to be close related which means that due to diversity of religion and non–religious
affiliates, the morale seems to balance itself
