1.The “Breakers” is the grandest of Newport’s summer
“cottages” and a symbol of the Vanderbilt family’s social
and financial power in 19th century America.
2. Because of its architectural significance, it was designated
a National Historic Landmark in 1994, and it is now one of
Rhode Island’s most popular tourist destinations, attracting
over 400,000 visitors per year.
3.The Breakers, was completed in 1895 as a summer home
for Cornelius Vanderbilt II, the prominent railroad tycoon.
4.The mansion occupies one acre out of 14 acre estate.

5. The Breakers has 70 rooms including 48 bed
rooms, 27 fire places and over 1,25,000 square
feet, in 5 floors, and it would go on to epitomize
the luxury, grandeur, and excess of the Gilded
Age.
6. The house was completed in just two years,
thanks to the efforts of some 2,000 workers who
worked in shifts, both day and night, to ensure
that it was completed as soon as possible.
7. Four generations of Vanderbilt family lived
nearly 123 years, and make it accessible to the
public for the first time.

Europe in 19th century.
2. The trees have grown massively.
3. Kum. Aaradhya, 1st Grade student taken me near to
the trees and helped me in taking photographs of
name plates fixed on tree trunks along with their
foliage.
