<ul><li>To reduce means to lessen or cut down on something. In Earth-friendly terms, this means using less of the Earth’s natural resources (anything we get from nature—metals, paper, fish, gasoline, etc.). Second, it means cutting down on the garbage we produce. </li></ul><ul><li>Why do we need to reduce? Because if we don’t, our seas might run out of fish, the earth might run out of gasoline, and our mountains might run out of trees! If we produce more and more garbage, soon we’ll run out of space to put our trash in! So it’s very important that we reduce. </li></ul>

Here are some ideas how to reduce by your self’s: <ul><li>Use energy-efficient products. </li></ul><ul><li>Turn off lights and electrical appliances when you’re not using them. </li></ul><ul><li>Buy in bulk — this helps avoid excess packaging. </li></ul><ul><li>Use public transport — this helps reduce air pollution. </li></ul><ul><li>Use water efficiently — don’t leave taps running when you aren’t using them. </li></ul>

<ul><li>“ Reuse” simply means that what ever we have, we can use again. For example: </li></ul><ul><li>Share books, magazines and newspaper. </li></ul><ul><li>Give away old items you don’t need to charity. </li></ul><ul><li>Use rechargeable batteries. </li></ul><ul><li>Use canvas or cloth bags when you go shopping instead of plastic ones. </li></ul><ul><li>Set the printer to print on both sides of a sheet of paper. </li></ul>

<ul><li>Recycle means transforming trash by using chemicals or machines so that it can be used again. When newspapers are torn up and mixed with chemicals, they can be made into newspapers again. When used plastic bags are fed into a machine, they can be turned into plastic chairs. </li></ul><ul><li>Amazing, isn’t it? When we recycle, we get something new out of old stuff. Not only that, we keep the old stuff from going into the landfill as garbage. </li></ul><ul><li>We can recycle garbage, such as glass, aluminum, plastic and paper by putting them to recycle bin. </li></ul>
