This document discusses potential applications of carbon nanotubes in nanomedicine. Carbon nanotubes have desirable properties such as a high aspect ratio and strong photoluminescence. They can be functionalized through various methods like covalent and non-covalent bonding. Functionalized carbon nanotubes show promise for applications such as drug delivery, gene delivery, cancer treatment, neural interaction, and medical imaging. Further research is still needed to improve carbon nanotube biocompatibility and targeting for safe use in nanomedicine.

5. Drug delivery
 Hampel et.al. 2008 ,oxidized MWCNTs  filled with drug carboplatin
introduced into bladder cancer cells  inhibit cell growth.
 Pastroin et.al. 2006 , covalently linked methotrexate and FITC with MWCNT
 fast accumulation in human jurkat T lymphocyte ( confirmed by
epifluorescence and confocal microscopy )
 Wang et al. 2012 , Doxorubicin adsorbed on MWCNT surface deliver better
drug than free one.

6. Gene delivery
 Lu et al 2003 , by non specific interaction , complexes of RNA polymer pol and SWCNTs
 translocation across MCF7 breast cancer cells .
 Yang et al. 2008 , positive charged oxidized SWCNTs coated with PL-PEG-NH2 
interact with dsDNA – FAM  Selectively up taken by tumour cell

7. other anticancer approaches
• Li et al. 2006 , oxidized SWCNTs can inhibit DNA duplex association
• Zhao et al. 2008 , Oxidized SWCNT  induced ss poly-rA in duplex
structure  don’t induce self strauctuation .

8. Anti tumor immune therapy
• Pantarotto et al. 2003 , viral peptide conjugated to CNTs  improve
immune response
• In 2008, tumor lysate protein linked with MWCNTs  used as H22
liver tumour vaccine in mouse model  increase cure rate of cancer.

• MWCNT coated Pluronic F127 induced in mice cerebral cortex

normally, PF127 induce apoptosis, but with MWCNT, apoptosis
inhibited ( Bardi et al,2009 )
