Even when you are preparing a slide and filling it with bullet-points, you know you are being a lazy-ass. Because, let’s face it, there’s just so much more that you could use in lieu of a ton of bullet points (I mean literally ‘a ton’, they’re all over the place!). Half of the audience won’t even be listening to what you have got to say and will simply read the points (completely ignoring your words in the process). If you don’t want your audience to tune out of your presentation and label you as ‘BORING’, play around a bit with cool info-graphics, icons and illustrations and make them go: ‘Whoa!’

To make the best use of information technology, educational institutions need a workable plan to fully integrate it into all aspects of the curriculum so students are taught how, why, and when to use technology. How technology is utilized in the curriculum and managed by teachers will have an important role to play in widening the resource and knowledge base for all students. Previously, the use of ICT was limited to private sector education only but it is no longer restricted to private sector education owing to the government efforts. The Government of Bangladesh in an effort to harness the power of ICT formulated its National ICT Policy in year 2002. To implement its policies, the government of Bangladesh has sought the help of UNDP and USAID to use its access to information (a2i) program for the development of the education sector. Access to information (a2i) program aims to make teaching and learning more effective and enjoyable for both students and teachers using ICTs. The most remarkable transformation was empowerment of teachers who were trained to create multimedia content independently, rather than depending on curriculum and multimedia experts. The government soon sought a2i’s support to design a USD 40 million educational transformation program to establish MMCs in over 23,000 secondary schools, madrassas and junior colleges and train nearly 70,000 teachers by 2014. To better understand how information systems are used in educational institutes, three cases were analyzed. In Adamjee Cantonment College, almost all the aspects of the college are currently under single information system software that ensures all the aspects of the college is going as per schedule. The college makes apt use of biometric identification, communication through text messages and intends to make us of OMR reader, E-payment service and attendance management systems. In the e-learning site Shikkok.com, online tutorials are provided to facilitate free online education and high-quality courses in Bengali language to rural and disadvantaged students in Bangladesh and India. Onnorokom Pathshala, another case considered, is trying to come up with an android app to cater to the mobile internet market. So far they are providing their services through their Youtube channel.

In Bangladesh, the total market capitalization or worth of all the companies listed on Dhaka Stock Exchange alone stands at an impressive $50 billion. However, in Bangladesh experienced massive downturns in the stock exchange in 2010. The predominantly bullish market (characterized by large and powerful investors) turned bearish (characterized by loss of investor confidence and a consistent decline in the value of stocks). Millions of small investors lost millions in equity and it is popular belief that the whole incident was a scam and resulted from government negligence. As such, the aim of this paper was to search for the factors that affect the buying behavior of investors and to see whether investor choices were grounded in fact or fiction. As such, the research was conducted on a sample of 80 investors covering different demographic avenues ranging from age, years of education, monthly income, marital status and some other characteristics. The research team identified 6 broad factors of investment choices further broken down into small variables of measurement.

The Ready-Made Garments (RMG) industry occupies a unique position in the Bangladesh economy. It is the largest exporting industry in Bangladesh, which experienced phenomenal growth during the last 25 years. The industry plays a key role in employment generation and in the provision of income to the poor. Nearly four million workers are directly and more than twelve million inhabitants are indirectly associated with the industry. Over the past twenty five years, the number of manufacturing units has grown from 180 to over 5000. The sector has also played a significant role in the socio-economic development of the country. It continued to show robust performance, competitive strength and, of no less importance, social commitment. RMG’s contribution to Bangladesh economy is well-known, well-appreciated and well-respected.

Yesterday in Lagos, I had the honour of delivering a lecture titled “If this Giant Must Walk; Manifesto for a New Nigeria“ at the Inaugural Memorial Lecture of Prince Emeka Obasi, founder and publisher of Business Hallmark and the inspirational figure behind the Public Policy Research and Analysis Centre - promoters of the revered Zik Leadership and Governance Awards. My lecture focused on the challenges of nation-building in Nigeria and how we can approach them in a way that promotes progress and unity. I discussed the many sources of concern about our country’s future prospects, including violent conflicts, revisionist contestations of the Amalgamation Act of 1914, discontent with the Nigerian economy, and dysfunctions in the federal system. Central to my lecture was the call to address these challenges by crafting a new manifesto for Nigeria. This manifesto, I proposed, should champion integrity, compassion, character, competence, and commitment to national unity and progress within a framework of democratic governance and cultural diversity. I firmly believe that by doing so, we can guide Nigeria to stride forward with pride and purpose. I want to thank the Board and Management of the Public Policy Forum for their kind invitation to speak at this important event and for their commitment to promoting public policy research and analysis in Nigeria. My gratitude also to the late Prince Emeka Obasi, a true inspiration and a builder of bridges across divides, for his contributions to the country. My thoughts are with his family and loved ones.

I had the honour of presenting my reflections on the autobiography of Professor Isaac Folorunso Adewole, titled "Uncommon Grace." As someone deeply invested in documentation and history, I found Professor Adewole's decision to narrate his journey from humble beginnings to occupying one of the highest offices in the land both inspiring and invaluable. In this eloquently written memoir, Professor Adewole provides a comprehensive account of his life, from his ancestral roots to his time as Minister of Health in Nigeria. The unique aspect of this autobiography is that he portrayed himself authentically without taking the help of third-party narratives, which is often seen in accounts of high-ranking officials. His upbringing was greatly influenced by his father's commitment to education. He became a prominent figure in advocating for the rights of the underprivileged through trade unionism. His story is one of unwavering determination, resilience, and faith. His experiences, including both successes and struggles, provide priceless lessons on leadership, perseverance, and the alignment of personal values with public service. While reading "Uncommon Grace," I was struck by the deep leadership lessons that are embedded within its chapters. Professor Adewole stresses the importance of inclusivity, servant leadership, and planning, which are all highly relevant in today's complex world. His commitment to accountability, as well as his primary responsibility as a researcher, serves as a guiding light for aspiring leaders across various disciplines. During his tenure as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, he led with visionary leadership and transformative impact. His accomplishments have been meticulously documented in the book, which can serve as a blueprint for rejuvenating institutions and promoting academic excellence. In the latter part of his autobiography, Professor Adewole shares his experiences as a Minister, detailing the challenges he faced while serving the public with integrity and courage. His reflections on the complexities of public service, coupled with his commitment to the well-being of the nation, offer practical insights for policymakers and citizens alike. I have carefully read "Uncommon Grace" and it is more than just a memoir. It is a timeless book that is hard to put down once you start reading. While intellectuals may continue to debate whether uncommon grace was made possible by uncommon preparation or the other way around, I applaud Professor Adewole for sharing his ideas, knowledge, and experience with the public. I highly recommend this book to everyone.
