Jude: The Acts of the Apostates (Jude vv.1-4).pptx
Pointless
1. An ancient story
is told, of
a man named Simon.
Who, after a long day at
his job as a fisherman,
a typical day,
When he accomplished
nothing, and caught
No fish,
met a man named Jesus.
Who asked him to get
back in his boat
And go out again
2. He’s tired, he knows
it’s pointless, but he
does it anyway.
Miraculously, his nets
are full, so full they are
breaking and his boat
so full it is sinking.
Thus in the midst of
the everyday grind of
living… Simon
experiences a miracle.
3. Such is the call of
Jesus - a call to
action - a call to live
for something other
than ourselves.
To expect
something more than
the world offers to
us. To experience a
miracle.
Simon is called to life,
to living.
4. He responds by falling
down at Jesus’ knees
saying…I am not
worthy…. You’ve got the
wrong person…….He
knows his brokenness….
Jesus’ Response?
Do not be afraid.
Jesus’ mission does not
wait until we think we
are ready.
We are called right now
5. Called to what?
To not Be Afraid
Afraid of what?
The same things you are
afraid of.. Afraid that
there’s no point – that
no matter what you do,
you’ll never change
things
6.
7. But first he has to leave
something behind.
It’s the same thing we
need to leave behind.
The thought that we
must be different to be
useful. God calls people
as they are, the before
picture, not the after….
That’s the message you
need to hear…there isn’t
somebody better…
you’re it.
8. But you have to go into deep
water
Where you are in over your
head, when can’t see the
bottom, the implication is not
where it’s safe, where you
have something to hold on
to. Look at the depth of life
around you. Not just what
you see on the surface.
“I want you to be everything
that's you, deep at the center
of your being.” Confucius
9. Do not assume you
know what is going to
happen - that you
know the outcome.
Let go of the things
that keep you from
being the one who
puts the boat back in
just because the
universe, whispers –
imagine what could be
out there..
10. “How strange is the lot
of us mortals! Each of
us is here for a brief
sojourn; for what
purpose he knows not,
though he sometimes
thinks he senses it.
But without deeper
reflection one knows
from daily life that one
exists for other people”
– Albert Einstein
