Decesion making

  1. 1. The story givenbelow is quiteinteresting andreally gives usan insight intoDECISIONMAKING.
  2. 2. A group of children wereplaying near two railwaytracks, one still in usewhile the other disused.Only one child played onthe disused track, the reston the operational track. The train came, and youwere just beside thetrack interchange. Youcould make the trainchange its course to thedisused track and savedmost of the kids.
  3. 3. However, that would also mean the lone child playingby the disused track would be sacrificed. Or wouldyou rather let the train go its way?Lets take a pause to think what kind of decision wecould make................
  4. 4. Most people might choose to divert the course of thetrain, and sacrifice only one child. You might thinkthe same way, I guess.Exactly, I thought the same way initially because tosave most of the children at the expense of only onechild was rational decision most people wouldmake, morally and emotionally. But, have you everthought that the child choosing to play on thedisused track had in fact made the right decisionto play at a safe place?
  5. 5. On second thoughtIf the train was diverted, that lone child woulddefinitely die because he never thought the traincould come over to that track. Moreover, that track was not in use probablybecause it was not safe. If the train was divertedto the track, we could put the lives of allpassengers on board at stake! And in yourattempt to save a few kids by sacrificing onechild, you might end up sacrificing hundreds ofpeople to save these few kids.
  6. 6. While we are all aware that life is full oftough decisions that need to be made,we may not realize that hasty decisionsmay not always be the right one."Remember that whats right isntalways popular...and whats popular isnt always right."
