researcher
 In 1939, while repairing medical
equipment used in d’Arsonval
electrotherapy, Kirlian discovered
that the electrical discharge
between a vitrified electrode and
particles of human skin changed
color.
 Trying to discover the cause of this,
he photographed the electric charge
without the use of a conventional
camera, that is, exposing the film
directly to the current.
 This experiment led to the invention
of a system of high-frequency
electrical photography.

 In electricity, a corona discharge is an electrical discharge
brought on by the ionization of a fluid surrounding a
conductor that is electrically energized.
 It is often seen as a bluish (or other color) glow in the air
adjacent to pointed metal conductors carrying high
voltages.

Introduction
 Kirlian photography is a collection of photographic techniques
used to capture the phenomenon of electrical coronal
discharges.
 Variously known as
Electrography
Electrophotography
Corona Discharge Photography (CDP)
Bioelectrography
Gas DischargeVisualization (GDV)
Electro Photonic Imaging (EPI)
Kirlianography in Russian literature.
 Kirlian photography has been the subject of mainstream
scientific research, para-psychology research and art.
Timeline
 In 1889, Czech B. Navratil coined the word "electrography“.
 in 1896, a French experimenter, H. Baravuc, created
electrographs of hands and leaves.
 In 1939, two Czechs, S. Pratt and J. Schlemmer published
photographs showing a glow around leaves.
 Russian electrical engineer Semyon Kirlian and his wife
Valentina developed Kirlian photography.
 In 1958, the Kirlians reported the results of their
experiments for the first time.
 Extensive researches were conducted in 1970s.
In 1899 , Nikola Tesla
performed experiments

that surrounded the body

Process
 Kirlian photography is a technique for creating contact print
photographs using high voltage.
 The process entails placing sheet photographic film on top
of a metal discharge plate.
 The object to be photographed is then placed directly on top
of the film.
 High voltage is momentarily applied to the metal plate, thus
creating an exposure.
 The corona discharge between the object and the high
voltage plate is captured by the film.
 The developed film results in a Kirlian photograph of the
object.

ColorVariation
 Color photographic film is calibrated to faithfully
produce colors when exposed to normal light.
 Corona discharges can interact with minute variations
in the different layers of dye used in the film.
 They result in a wide variety of colors depending on the
local intensity of the discharge.
 Film and digital imaging techniques also record light
produced by photons emitted during corona discharge
Grounding
 Photographs of inanimate objects such as a coins, keys
and leaves can be made more effectively by grounding
the object to the earth, a cold water pipe or to the
opposite (polarity) side of the high voltage source.
 Grounding the object creates a stronger corona
discharge.

 Kirlian photography does not require the use of a
camera or a lens because it is a contact print process.
 It is possible to use a transparent electrode in place of
the high voltage discharge plate.
 The resulting corona discharge can be captured with a
standard camera or a video camera.
Myths and
Pseudoscience
 Many people claim that this
sort of photo is showing the
"life force" or "aura" of living
things.
 This is something many
pseudoscientists are using as
so they can sell these sorts
of cameras for thousands of
dollars.
 In real, it is just simple
corona and ionisation effects
that are being observed.

 Formerly known as Gas DischargeVisualization (GDV),
 It is an advanced form of Kirlian photography
developed by Dr. Konstantin Korotkov.
 This technology produces an electric impulse, which
generates a response of the subject in the form of
electron & photon emission.

Kirlian Photography

  • 2. Semymon Davidovitch Kirlian Russian inventor and researcher  In 1939, while repairing medical equipment used in d’Arsonval electrotherapy, Kirlian discovered that the electrical discharge between a vitrified electrode and particles of human skin changed color.  Trying to discover the cause of this, he photographed the electric charge without the use of a conventional camera, that is, exposing the film directly to the current.  This experiment led to the invention of a system of high-frequency electrical photography.

Corona discharge  In electricity, a corona discharge is an electrical discharge brought on by the ionization of a fluid surrounding a conductor that is electrically energized.  It is often seen as a bluish (or other color) glow in the air adjacent to pointed metal conductors carrying high voltages.

  • 5. Introduction  Kirlian photography is a collection of photographic techniques used to capture the phenomenon of electrical coronal discharges.  Variously known as Electrography Electrophotography Corona Discharge Photography (CDP) Bioelectrography Gas DischargeVisualization (GDV) Electro Photonic Imaging (EPI) Kirlianography in Russian literature.  Kirlian photography has been the subject of mainstream scientific research, para-psychology research and art.
  • 6. Timeline  In 1889, Czech B. Navratil coined the word "electrography“.  in 1896, a French experimenter, H. Baravuc, created electrographs of hands and leaves.  In 1939, two Czechs, S. Pratt and J. Schlemmer published photographs showing a glow around leaves.  Russian electrical engineer Semyon Kirlian and his wife Valentina developed Kirlian photography.  In 1958, the Kirlians reported the results of their experiments for the first time.  Extensive researches were conducted in 1970s.
  • 7. In 1899 , Nikola Tesla performed experiments whiletestingout TeslaCoil at his laboratory in Colorado Springs showing that a human being exposed to high frequency electro-magnetic fields produced a luminous glow that surrounded the body like asecondskin.
  • 8. Process  Kirlian photography is a technique for creating contact print photographs using high voltage.  The process entails placing sheet photographic film on top of a metal discharge plate.  The object to be photographed is then placed directly on top of the film.  High voltage is momentarily applied to the metal plate, thus creating an exposure.  The corona discharge between the object and the high voltage plate is captured by the film.  The developed film results in a Kirlian photograph of the object.

ColorVariation  Color photographic film is calibrated to faithfully produce colors when exposed to normal light.  Corona discharges can interact with minute variations in the different layers of dye used in the film.  They result in a wide variety of colors depending on the local intensity of the discharge.  Film and digital imaging techniques also record light produced by photons emitted during corona discharge
  • 11. Grounding  Photographs of inanimate objects such as a coins, keys and leaves can be made more effectively by grounding the object to the earth, a cold water pipe or to the opposite (polarity) side of the high voltage source.  Grounding the object creates a stronger corona discharge.

Photography without camera  Kirlian photography does not require the use of a camera or a lens because it is a contact print process.  It is possible to use a transparent electrode in place of the high voltage discharge plate.  The resulting corona discharge can be captured with a standard camera or a video camera.
  • 15. Myths and Pseudoscience  Many people claim that this sort of photo is showing the "life force" or "aura" of living things.  This is something many pseudoscientists are using as so they can sell these sorts of cameras for thousands of dollars.  In real, it is just simple corona and ionisation effects that are being observed.
  • 16. Electro- Photon Imaging (EPI)  Formerly known as Gas DischargeVisualization (GDV),  It is an advanced form of Kirlian photography developed by Dr. Konstantin Korotkov.  This technology produces an electric impulse, which generates a response of the subject in the form of electron & photon emission.
  • 17. The glow of the photon radiation owing to the gas discharge generated from the electromagnetic field is captured by a digital camera and processed by sophisticated software where a report can be generated.
