2. Farmer Joe Farmer John

3. Farmer Joe is a carrot
farmer.

4. Farmer John grows wheat and oat crops.

5. They have both owned their
farms for 10 years.

6. Sustainable Farming.
Although they still 100km
haven’t discovered
sustainable
farming.

7. Farmer Joe sprays his crop...

8. Then ploughs his crop...

9. Leaves his crop to fallow.
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

10. Then he fertilizes his crop...

11. Sprays his crop again...

12. Then seeds his crop.

13. Every year!

14. Every year Farmer Joe was baffled.

16. Why didn’t they grow like they did in
the good old days?

17. Framer Joe thought it was time he
went and asked farmer John.

18. Turned out Farmer John had many
problems of his own.

19. Farmer John’s crops kept getting taken
over by weeds and grasses.

20. He tried ploughing them...

21. But that didn’t work. So he tried
poisoning them.

22. But that just killed his crops!

23. The last thing John tried was covering
the field with newspaper.

24. But Famer John didn’t have enough
and it started to blow away.

25. Then Farmer Joe had an idea. Why not
ask Google?

them many things.

27. Farmer Joe just had to use a thing
called
crop rotation

28. In simple terms, Joe just had to grow
other vegetables as well, like corn and
cabbages, to make his carrots happy.

29. This was Crop Rotation.
Every year Farmer Joe had to swap
around different types of vegetables

30. Framer Joe set out his 4 year plan.
My Plan

31. One year would be his beloved carrots,

32. Then the next year Joe could grow
corn,

33. After that would be tomatoes,

34. Then lastly cabbages.

35. Farmer Joe would repeat this plan so
he would be effectively sustaining his
farm.

36. Farmer John figured out that
mulching his crops by simply
buying or cutting up woodchips or
covering it with a layer of other plant
material, then putting it on the crop is
the BEST way to grow!!

37. Here is Famer John’s new, nicely
mulched crop! He decided to use
hay/silage in order to control the
weeds and grasses and put nutrients in
to the soil.

38. To this day, Farmer Joe and Farmer
John are happy farmers with their
sustainably grown crops and
vegetables
