3. General Introduction
‘Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well
being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.’ -
World Health Organization
Health care access, affordability, and quality are problems all
around the world. There are well-established disparities
based on income and geography, and the high costs of health
care present affordability challenges for millions of different
people.
Mobile technology offers ways to help with these challenges.
Through mobile health applications, sensors, medical devices,
and remote patient monitoring products, there are avenues
through which health care delivery can be improved. These
technologies can help lower costs by facilitating the delivery
of care, and connecting people to their health care providers.
4. Literature Survey
Paper 1- Android Mobile Application Build on Eclipse
Eclipse is an integrated development environment (IDE). It contains a base
workspace and an extensible plug-in system for customizing the
environment.
Paper 2- Domain Specific Search Of Nearest Hospital And Healthcare
Management System
The importance of Electronic Health Record in Healthcare Management
System is recognised by many developed and developing countries.
Emergency Medical System (EMS) is an approach aiming towards emergency
medical treatment in some medical emergency. It consists of a mobile system
that enables electronic healthcare data storage, update, retrieval through
Cloud Computing. The proposed system locates the nearest available hospital,
contacts its ambulance emergency system, accesses a EHR (Electronic Health
Record) of emergency patient to help assist in critical pre-hospital treatments.
5. Literature Survey
Paper 3-Location Based Emergency Medical Assistance System Using
OpenStreetMap
A system is proposed which is a location based emergency medical assistance
system using OpenStreetMap(OSM) where all healthcare centres are mapped
taking the waypoints of them. Proposed system comprises a database which
is the central server of the detailed information about the healthcare centres,
and an android device with the application installed.
Paper 4-Prototype Early Warning System for Heart Disease Detection Using
Android Application
Early warning systems to detect heart disease that support mobility of
human can be used to detect potential diseases and avoid major health risks.
It intends to develop an expert system that is connected to heart rate
detector which is a combination of a pulse sensor- arduino ADK and android
phones.
6. Problem Statement
The current standard operating procedure in healthcare
environment for patient and appointment scheduling are time
consuming and somehow tiresome. Patients come to hospitals and
clinics and wait to get a doctor's appointment. In online
registrations, there is a high risk of data infiltration which increases
chances of hacking and denial of service. Also, there is no
prioritization for patients with severe illnesses or for senior citizens.
We also need new ways to improve personal health monitoring,
quantitative measures of vital signs of body such as body
temperature, heart rate (pulse), etc. with non invasive monitoring
techniques to detect potential risks, and there is no system which
provides monitoring of vital parameters in a cost effective way
which can be used on the go.
7. Proposed Solution
The proposed system overcomes the conventional ways for booking appointments
with doctors.
-Allows a user to search for the nearest healthcare clinics and hospitals to a specific
location by entering location, name of the respective healthcare centre or through
GPS.
-Provides all the relevant details of health centres along with number, distance from
given location, ratings etc.
-Appointment booking can be done for registered hospitals and clinics by just
entering health department or by doctor's name.
-Will notify the user for confirmation of appointment.
-The proposed system also has an efficient approach over the conventional ways of
monitoring vital statistics of one's body, it is very cost effective as it runs on an
Android based platform
Thus it will save a lot of time and manual work to be done and provide ease to
users, health management staff and doctors.
8. Overall Description
The healthcare management system proposed is to be created on Android
platform which is easily accessible to all users. It allows a user to search
for the nearest healthcare clinics and hospitals to a specific location by
entering the city and also the user can enter the name of the respective
healthcare centre to view ratings and details or book appointments, it also
allows to search for hospitals and clinics via GPS. It provides all the
relevant details of health centres along with number, distance from given
location, ratings etc. Appointment booking can be done for registered
hospitals and clinics by just entering health department or by doctor's
name. The system will also notify the user a few minutes before the
appointment to confirm the user's availability. This healthcare application
overcomes the cumbersome process of appointment booking and also
reduces responsibilities on the staff, hence providing management with
efficiency.
9. Functional & Non-Functional Requirements
Functional Requirements-
• The system should allow the user to update their personal information.
• The system should have details of all the locations possible for the user to search
nearest healthcare centres.
• The registered hospitals should provide exact and updated details of doctor's fee
and timings.
• User must be already registered or must sign up to use the application.
Non-Functional Requirements-
• System should not crash while user is entering his personal information.
• System should run on all higher API levels above the basic API required.
• No other person should have the right to edit a person's personal details
• System should be developed using standard software development conventions to
help in easy review and redesigning of the system.
• The database would be vast, so server should always run perfectly.
17. Conclusion
In Heracles-Healthcare Management System, we have approached a more
efficient patient-centred system which is an extension of the intersection
between technology and health care. We have created a system to access
health care and create opportunities to revolutionize the industry through
high-quality and highly personalized care. The healthcare management
system proposed is to be created on Android platform which is easily
accessible to all users. It allows a user to search for the nearest healthcare
clinics and hospitals, book appointments and receive notifications sent by the
system. Our system also takes a step towards encouraging non invasive
monitoring and recording techniques for body's vital statistics, and provides a
fairly efficient module. The system is step towards modernizing healthcare
services and provides a framework for advancement of healthcare services by
utilizing many other technologies and platforms to empower patients and
healthcare providers proactively.
