2. The city of Burgos
Burgos is one of the provinces which make up the Autonomous
Community of Castille and Leon, the largest region in the whole
European Union. This Autonomous Community constituted the
Kingdoms of Castille and Leon after the Reconquest from the Moors.
That is why it possesses its own cultural heritage.
Geologically it is formed by the sedimentary basin of the river
Duero, surrounded by mountain ranges in the North, East and South
so we can find a great variety of landscapes and beautiful natural
places.
3. The city of Burgos
Burgos is one of the nine provinces which make up the Autonomous Community of
Castile and Leon.
In the North the Eastern foothills of the Cantabric mountain range separate it from
the Cantabric Autonomous Community and the Basque Country. It is bounded by the
provinces of Segovia and Soria to the South, by the Autonomous regions of La Rioja,
the Basque Country and the province of Soria to the east, and by Palencia and
Valladolid to the west. This prime position endows Burgos with a privileged geographic
location.
Founded in 884 by Count Diego Porcelos, during the reign of Alfonso III, Burgos
has kept along the centuries, the stamp given by its founders.
Countless monuments, parks and promenades and the little streets in the old city
make a stroll through Burgos a fascinating experience.
The hill on which the Castle stands affords a superb view of the city, the Cathedral
shows us its grandeur and the charm of its towers and capitals which rise towards the
blue sky of Castile.
