Stochastic Models in Operation Research January 2014 - Present
Instructed undergraduate Industrial Engineering class of 30 students throughout each week by leading discussion,
designing weekly assignment, fielding questions and grading assignments and quizzes.
Aided in developing course content for "Stochastic Models in Operation Research".
Organized and facilitated classroom lessons, activities and Presentations
Provided weekly individual instruction and guidance through tutoring and mentoring
Dealt with topics like Markovian Decision Process, Queuing Theory, Probabilistic techniques of Operation Research and
inventory models to analyze and evaluate system performance.
TI Diamond Chains Chennai, India
Research Intern November 2011 – February 2012
Conducted brainstorming sessions with the warehouse manager and supervisor to decrease the inventory cost and work
in process inventory. Gained hands on experience with Material Resource Planning software Fishbowl.
Part of the team that was involved in reducing the inventory cost and Work in Process inventory cost by $50,000 a year
thereby giving company more flexibility and increased profit.
Lead and executed Kaizen burst events for reduction of reworks in the manufacturing module by implementing Poka -
Yoke lean tool.
Reduced reworks to 27% from 43% by enhancing the fitting of chain link using a dedicated press system.
Performed time studies and studied the Overall Equipment Effectiveness of machines to identify the major losses in the
system. The overall Equipment Effectiveness was identified to be 53% and after implementation of various lean tools,
we were able to increase the OEE to 71%.
Part of the team that implemented Total Productive Maintenance and worked in close association with the maintenance
department in training people which resulted in the reduction of downtime by 39%
Developed a Value Stream to identify the Value added and Non Value added activity, studied process steps and used
various lean and six sigma tools to achieve 46% reduction in scrap.
Research Assistant: Quantitative and Qualitative Analysis of Hospitals in United States
Collected data from various sources on all hospitals in USA.
Data includes details on every department of each hospital, financial data, their financial indicators, inpatient data,
outpatient data, hospital profile and quality aspects of the hospital
A detailed statistical analysis was conducted on the financial data collected. A regression analysis was performed
followed by M ANOVA test to test the closeness of data between Hospital Unit Cost (HUC) vs Adjusted Patient Days
(APD) cost for around 2000 hospitals using the statistical software Minitab
2. Regression Analysis was performed between HUC and APD costing to hospital operating cost using the statistical
software Minitab. We identified that R square for HUC to be 0.80 and was more reliable compared to APD.
Hospital Productivity Index (HPI) score which represents the hospital performance score compared to the state average
and national average score for hospitals in all the 50 states in USA was derived. We identified that nearly 60% of the
hospitals in the United States were below the national average and state average.
A detailed report is prepared for every single hospital stating the necessity details about the hospital, the current HPI
score and where they stand among their competitors in the surrounding area.
The report will consists of their competitors score and measures and tools to improve the HPI score of the hospital.
Tools include implementation of lean and managing staff.
Global Supply Chain Management and Inventory Control of Roche Pharmaceuticals and CVS: A Case Study
Simulated a model in ARENA to optimize and minimize the total supply chain cost between Roche pharmaceuticals and
CVS retail outlet.
Used Input Analyzer to analyze the data collected and to identify the pattern of distribution the data is following for
further application.
Our model takes into account the lead time taken to reach CVS retail store from Roche manufacturing unit and also the
optimum inventory CVS has to maintain along with the safety stock to avoid stock out. We have also considered demand
uncertainty of the tablet.
The result of our simulation model is to reduce total inventory cost of CVS retail chain by implementing and improving
on the (S, s) inventory model.
Used Process Analyzer to conduct experiments and identify the optimum quantity CVS has to purchase in order to avoid
stock out and maximize profit at the same time reduces the inventory cost.
Research Assistant: Design of next day internet driven fulfillment center September 2014- May 2015
To help the emerging E-Commerce companies to compete with the established E-commerce companies like Amazon.
Designed a distribution system that will help the smaller companies to deliver customer demand in a faster way and
perform efficiently during demand fluctuations using Visio.
Used EnterpriseIQ Management Software to integrate all aspects of warehouse optimization.
Research Assistant: National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli, India
Lean Concept Selection Using Modified Fuzzy TOPSIS May 2012 - August 2012
Implemented a new structure for a valve manufacturing company to implement lean engineering.
Five concepts were selected and evaluated based on 12 criteria, using Multi Criterion Decision Making and the research
performed.
Formulated the inputs based on the research and concluded Value Stream Mapping to be the most important lean
concept with respect to the firm chosen.
Member of the team that visited the manufacturing firm to help the firm incorporate the major lean tools that was
important to enable to pull system mainly 5S, VSM, Kanban and Kaizen. Lean tools like 3P and TPM were in the list that
was to be incorporated in the future.
