3. Architecture
The Parthenon is a former temple
dedicated to the goddess Athena.
All temples in Greece were designed to
be seen only from the outside. The
viewers never entered a temple and
could only glimpse the interior statues
through the open doors. The
Parthenon was conceived in a way that
the aesthetic elements allow for a
smooth transition between the exterior
and the interior that housed the
chryselephantine statue of Athena. The
Parthenon is a double peripteral Doric
temple with several unique and
innovative architectural features.
Nowadays It is regarded as an
enduring symbol of Ancient Greece,
Athenian democracy and western
civilization and one of the world's
greatest cultural monuments.

4. Architecture
The theatre of Epidaurus is
considered one of the purest
masterpieces of Greek architecture
and admired for its exceptional
acoustics, which permit almost
perfect intelligibility of unamplified
spoken words from the center of the
stage to all 14,000 spectators,
regardless of their seating.
The tholos in Delphi is a circular
building which was created between
380 and 360 BC at the center of the
sanctuary of Athena Pronaia. It is
constructed with 20 Doric columns
on its exterior diameter and
incorporates a lot architectural
innovations.

5. Literature and Theater
For ancient Greeks, theater was consider a form of education an thus was free for poor
people. Noticeable Ancient Greek writers are Homer, Aeschylus, Sophocles, Euripides
and Aristophanes that wrote some of the worlds most famous tragedies, comedies, satyr
plays and epic poems that are performed even today
Along with the Odyssey, the Iliad is the
oldest extant works of Western literature

7. Language
Greek is the predominant source of international scientific vocabulary such us
mathematics, physics, philosophy and medicine. It is one of the oldest languages in the
world and was often used to coin new words for other languages.

8. Sciences
• Greek mathematics constitutes a major period in the history of mathematics, most
specifically in geometry, the idea of formal proof, number theory and applied mathematics.
Famous Greek Mathematicians are : Euclid, Archimedes, Pythagoras and Thales
• The Hippocratic Oath derives from Hippocrates who is considered “The Father of Western
Medicine”.
• Ancient Greeks contributed to sciences such as physics, chemistry and astronomy

9. Democracy and Philosophy
• The term and idea of "democracy" first appeared in ancient Greek political and
philosophical thought in the city-state of Athens. Cleisthenes is credited with
reforming the constitution of Ancient Athens and setting it on a democratic footing.
Historians referred to him as “The father of the Athenian Democracy”.
• Ancient Greek philosophy arose in the 6th century BC and dealt with a wide variety of
subjects, including political philosophy, ethics, metaphysics, ontology, logic, rhetoric,
and aesthetics. Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle were the most influential of the ancient
Greek philosophers, and focused their attention more on the role of the human being
than on the explanation of the material world.

10. Food
The Greek food is the perfect example of traditional Mediterranean cuisine. It's based
around a variety of colorful and flavorful foods that are high in nutrients and low in animal
fats. Famous Greek foods and products are Greek salad, yogurt, souvlaki, olives, olive
oil, honey, feta and ouzo.

11. Sports
Greece was the birthplace and home of the Ancient Olympic Games and the host for
the revival of the Modern Olympic games

The Olympic flame is lit at the site of the Ancient
Olympics in Olympia, Greece. Its origin lie in
ancient Greece, commemorating the theft of fire
from Greek god Zeus by Prometheus.

In Ancient Greece painting in walls was considered a
way of decoration for palaces and temples. The theme

• Music in Greece is of unbelievable diversity due to the creative Greek assimilation of
different influences of the Eastern and Western cultures of Asia and Europe. Music is
an important aspect of the daily Greek culture
• There are different styles and interpretations of dancing from all of the islands and
surrounding mainland areas. Each region formed its own choreography and style to fit
in with their own ways and dancers have their own costumes.
