• Browser support for Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge
• Java Applets will fall in the maintenance mode (no further development)
• Moving forward, all new features will be added to TransferAgent
• Remove the burden of running Java Applets from the end user

What is FileCatalyst TransferAgent?
In a nutshell:
TransferAgent combines a desktop application (the “agent” itself) with an HTML5
interface that allows browsing local or remote file listings, selecting files for transfer, and
initiating UDP file transfer without the use of browser plugins.

TransferAgent - features
• No dependency on Java Plugin in the web browser for both Mac and Windows
• Support for all major browsers including: Chrome, Edge, IE, Safari, Firefox
• Light weight, install only when required (inline install)
• Security: PGP encryption, user security prompts to allow/deny access
• Support for both uploads, downloads with a transfer queue and download button
• No web server side technology required except for FileCatalyst Direct Server
• Built-in email notifications and web links
• Based on an open REST API (language and technology neutral)

Building complex applications using microservices-based architecture naturally involves a great amount of remote communication based on RESTful APIs. The REST APIs represent the contract of the microservice, with both external and internal stakeholders. Microservices, with poorly designed and unstable APIs, might pose a challenge for the whole application stack, for both adoption and maintenance. Delivering and receiving digital content can be challenging - FTP is slow and unreliable, attachment size limits often prevent sending via email and shipping on physical storage solutions is costly and can take days to deliver. Factor in the growing size of today’s media files and the above mentioned methods of file transfer become an inefficient and disruptive processes to media workflows, especially over large geographical distances. To ensure the effective and fast transfers of digital content, a strategy must be put in place for the swift reliable and secure delivery of files. Adopting a solution that prevents the file transfer bottlenecks commonly experienced when transferring large format media files is crucially important to media and broadcast organizations looking to make timely transfers when sharing files. This presentation, originally presented at Broadcast India 2013, provides an understanding of the challenges and solutions associated with the agile and reliable delivery of digital content in today’s media and entertainment landscape, as well as an overview file transfer technologies optimizing user networks for cost-efficient IT processes. Also included in this presentation is a look at the technology behind accelerated file transfer, its benefits over other methods of file transfer, and an in depth look at why accelerated and managed file transfer should be considered in transferring today’s ever-growing digital media files. After we learn to read the JVM profiler output as a flame graph, we explore a series of bottlenecks typical for backend systems, like connection/thread pool starvation, invisible aspects, blocking code, hot CPU methods, lock contention, and Virtual Thread pinning, and we learn to trace them even if they occur in library code you are not familiar with.
