• APNIC is a not-for profit membership-based organization
• APNIC’s mission is to run the Internet Number Registry as
well as to support Internet development in Asia Pacific
• Training & Technical Assistance on Internet infrastructure
and related topics is the core Internet development work for
technical capacity building
• Also do Internet infrastructure support and
technical/security community support
3. Technical Training by APNIC
• Internet infrastructure focused and vendor-neutral training
– Targeting working network/systems engineers primarily
– Also suits education for engineering students
• APNIC Academy as integrated online platform for blending
learning
– Online + F2F / instructor-led + self-paced
– Structured standardized training content and full curriculum
• Using CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 licensing terms
– Still work-in-progress under continuous development
4. APNIC & APAN Community
• Most of NRENs & RENs are APNIC Members
– Some universities too
• Re-engage with APAN community since APAN 44 in Dalian in late 2017
– Do APNIC training at APAN meetings since APAN 45 in Singapore in early 2018
• APNIC is a member of AARNet
– Join eduroam and offer service to APNIC Members with Academy accounts
– Better connectivity with R&E networks via AARNet
• To join eduGAIN through AAF for easy access to APNIC Academy by
R&E community
• Collaborate closely with WIDE Project on APIDT related development
work including ARENA-PAC and AI3/SOI Asia
5. APNIC Tutorial at APAN 52
• 3 Aug: Half-Day Tutorial on “Introduction to Suricata
Intrusion Detection System” with theory and hands-on labs
by Warren Finch
– Up to 25 concurrent attendees
– Around 7 attended from start to finish
– Labs on “Use Suricata to Analyse Packet Captures” is still available:

• Inputs are welcome for future APNIC trainings for APAN

7. APIDT, APNIC Foundation & APNIC
• APIDT (Asia Pacific Internet Development Trust)
– WIDE Project in collaboration with APNIC

– Provide funding support for Internet/R&E development projects in AP
• APNIC Foundation
– Manage Internet/R&E development projects
– Do fund-raising from various funding sources

8. ARENA-PAC
• Arterial Research & Education Network in Asia Pacific
– A new regional R&E backbone network for AP region
– Part of APOnet
• Funded by APIDT and operated by WIDE Project, with support from APNIC
• The first 100G circuit between Guam and Tokyo is up since Feb 2021, leveraging GOREX
and later GXP-Tokyo
• Shared 100G circuit between Guam and Singapore will be up by end of Sep 2021 in
partnership with Internet2, AARNet and TransPAC, leveraging GOREX and SOE
• Will add circuits between Guam and other economies including Philippines and Indonesia

9. AI3/SOI Asia
• Both under WIDE
• AI3, started from 1996, is a project to connect universities in Southeast Asian
countries via satellite links
• SOI Asia, started from 2001, aims to promote university research and educational
cooperation based on AI3’s infrastructure
• Will leverage ARENA-PAC network more going forward
• Now with funding from APNIC Foundation/APIDT
– APie (Asia Pacific Internet Engineer) program in the making, in partnership with AITAC leveraging
APNIC Academy platform and content
• More collaboration with APAN community foreseen

10. Future of APNIC Training/Academy
• Substantially scale up and grow training and technical assistance
capacity with funding from APNIC Foundation and APIDT

• Leveraging APNIC Academy platform and branding with well-structured
training content & curriculum
– Seamless integration for blended learning (instructor-led & self-paced)
• Community Trainers Network expansion for more instructor-led training
and technical assistance in local languages

community
• Full certification with full curriculum is the ultimate goal
